http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/28/s...ched-wages.html?pagewanted=1&ref=opinion&_r=0 Are all people entitled to a wage that will support them, and their children, without federal aid? I know 1 person can live on $9/hr and if 2 people are working at that rate they can support a family of 3 (ok, ok, notywithstanding those rare exceptions people love to toss out in idiocy). It seems to me that if, as one person in ther article suggested, minimum wage was raised to $15/hr (or to be more practicle, $12/hr) the cost of goods and services will rise along with it and then where do we go? Perhaps raising the minimum wage to $9/hr is a good start.
If someone puts forth effort they can make more than $9/hour. We shouldn't have to coddle to the people that don't want to try and be successful.
True. It seems to me the article was as much about entitlement as anything else. 'Because I work for you and produce income for you, therefore you must provide me a cut of the pie'. Not, 'I've made nothing of myself and have no reason to in my eyes, so just pay me'.
And if minimum wage were 15$/hr, do you think there would be an increase in tax revenue, and a decrease in federal aid money spent? This seems like a dream for republicans.
Unlikely. Having been a cashier once upon a time, most of the people on food stamps felt entitled to what they were receiving and had no drive to get a job. They would come in on the first, buy tons of steaks and meat and then come in on the 20th buying top ramen complaining about how they are poor and they can't survive off what they get with food stamps. Especially disgusting when you're a starving college kid. I think you'd see a lot of businesses shut down if minimum wages went up to 15/hr. So I doubt it would raise tax revenues much.
McDonald's teaches their employees how easy it is to budget and live on minimum wage. They even show the the economic benefits of getting a 2nd job. http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/202...w-impossible-it-is-to-get-by-on-minimum-wage/
$800 in spending money. Idk about you but I budget well and spend barely anything Monday thru Friday. I'd assume someone in that situation could too.
And lets be honest, if someone is in that situation they should do everything in there power to improve it. But of course that takes hard work so they don't want to try. My fiance went to school and received grants for one year to become a dental assistant and is now making $16/hr. It's not hard if you put in the work.
I really don't. I go to grocery outlet and buy 2 for $1 bags of oatmeal and four of those bags feed me lunch the entire month. My job is 3 miles from my house and I drive only 275 miles a month. You can buy a six pack of tp at Wal-Mart for 97 cents.
I'm an accountant sly, my entire budget is like a profit and loss statement in my head. Every purchase goes in my head as if I was running a business. Sometimes it sucks being an accountant.
biggest issue with that mcdonalds budget is that they have them working a second job at almost the same amount of hours a week. It's like saying look how easy it is to make it on minimum wage full time......as long as you get another job working 30 hours a week on top of that.
Two people can work one job each. It's easy to ridicule their budget suggestion. So be it. Out of curiosity, I searched google for "macdonalds $20 health insurance" to see if there was any explanation of where they got the figure. Amusing that google showed me a paid ad for $30/mo health insurance. FWIW, my wife and I live on $30/day after fixed expenses. That $30 covers food, gasoline, etc.
Sure, and 6 people can work 6 jobs,a nd you can have MORE for the budget. But, what if you're singe? Then, you don't get those two incomes added together.
