Murphy was great at standup but damn if his star didn't fall fast due to all the crappy movies he's done over the last 10 years or so. A VERY talented guy.
...rick, that clip I linked was from the "Delirious" tour many years ago...if you have not seen the entire concert, give it a look...you'll laugh your ass off.
In the last 10 years, Eddie's only done 9 movies... 2 were Shrek related, 1 hasn't been released yet.... so of the remaining 6 he won a crapload of awards (good ones) for his role in Dreamgirls He was nominated/won the golden raspberry award for "Norbit" (never saw or heard of it)... Nominated but didn't win for "Meet Dave", "Imagine That", and "A Thousand Words" So 4 bad movies as perceived by many... The two Shrek movies won awards and Donkey is an awesome ass character I always wanted to see Tower Heist but never did... But only 9 movies since 2005... The decade before he did 17 movies most of which were kid related...
I think he's had more clunkers then hits. IMO he should have stayed away from sequels. The originals of 48 hrs, Beverly hills cop & Nutty professor were excellent, the sequels however (again IMO) sucked.
I disagree regarding the Beverly Hills... didn't watch the sequel to the nutty professor and didn't watch any of the 48 hours... Love daddy day care, love all the shreks, and I think he's had more good than bad
Murphy made a conscious decision to make movies his kids could watch. Far from fallen star. He has plenty of time to circle back to the serious stuff. Rick I think you misinterpreted his filmography.... Those weren't what he could get, those were projects he promoted.
Aside from schrek I don't think any of his later movies have made money BUT.......with that said he does have a few movies he's working on that sound like they may be pretty good. 1) Triplets - Danny DeVito & Arnold Schwarznegger find out they have a 3rd brother (Murphy). 2) Beverly hills cop 4 3) Richard Pryor "Is it something I said".
If he plays Pryor in a movie about his life....that could be Oscar nomination material....with the comeback after "the fire". That could be a Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler type of drama.
