    TORONTO - Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell left the team Monday and flew home to Atlanta following the death of his father-in-law.

    Assistant coach Mike Evans was slated to run the team Monday night for Toronto's game against the visiting San Antonio Spurs, while Canadian Jay Triano will take over head coaching duties on Wednesday against the visiting New Jersey Nets.

    A Raptors spokesman said Mitchell would not rejoin the team until after this weekend's all-star break.

    Mitchell, 44, had never missed a game during his three-and-a-half seasons in Toronto. The reigning NBA coach of the year is 134-161 with Toronto, and 27-22 this season.</div>
