It's amazing how often things change over the course of a 162 game season.

The National League looks to be all set playoff wise as the Nationals continue to disgrace themselves in favor of the Mets and the Cards and Dodgers hold huge division leads.

Mets, Cardinals, Dodgers with the Pirates and Cubs as the Wild Cards.

The American League hold one certainly and that's the Royals will soon clinch the American League Central. The Twins are slightly hanging on in a quickly vanishing chance at a Wild Card. Everything else is up in the air as the Rangers have closed within one game (tied in he loss column) of Houston. They have seven games to go against each other. The Angels still have a small pulse 5.5 games back. In the Al East seven games remaining between the Yankees and Blue Jays will go a long way in telling us who takes the division and who plays the one game playoff.

...I was just thinking today about what a shame it is that either St Louis, Pitsburgh, or the Cubs will have to play a 1 game WC game...3 of the best and most likable teams in Baseball...and the winner has to move on and play on the the road after having already used their best starter in the WC game...nope, I don't like the current system at all.

My brother and I had a conversation about this yesterday. This year it really stands out because you have three teams in one division with the three best records. That I guess could change depending on how the season ends but the point still remains. Either the Pirates and Cubs play 162 games of a successful season and one of them will be out in just one game. Plus, yes they then likely have to use their best starter which doesn't make the division series as competitive as it should be.
