MMA journalist Jim Genia is reporting that in as early as two weeks the State of New York may be forced to sanction MMA events. According to Genia, a loophole in the regulation of combat sports in the state allows for 3rd-party oversight over MMA events. The World Kickboxing Association could be called on (paid) to sanction an MMA event in the state (UFC) in the meantime until the law banning MMA in New York is repealed. The UFC has reserved Madison Square Garden for their 20th anniversary show in November but might be able to do a show in the state prior to that.
