Fiorentina prodigy Riccardo Montolivo has left his Fiorentina future in no doubt after signing a contract extension with the Firenze club that will see him in the violet until 2012...

Viola attacking midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has penned a mammoth contract extension at Fiorentina that will see him remain at the Artemnio Franchi until 2012.

The former Atalanta ace arrived in Florence two seasons ago and has rapidly established himself as a key player under Cesare Prandelli.

Now, the one-time capped Italian international has declared himself delighted to commit his future to the club.

"I always wanted to renew here, and my only regret is that I haven't signed on to 2013," he gushed.

"I feel really at home here, and wanted by the club, who are always quick to smile at me and to encourage me."

Montolivo arrived on a deal not quite resembling youth terms in 2005, but it's fair to say that his new wage packet - thought to contain a million euros a season - will outweigh the old one by a considerable margin.

Fiorentina face Siena on Sunday afternoon as Montolivo returns from international duty. He won his first cap for the Azzurri in the midweek 2-0 win over South africa.

That's awesome! A friend of mine from near Bergamo went toschool with Montolivo and still stays in contact with him regularly.Montolivo isyoung and already considered a top player in Italy. He should be a regular selection to the Italian national team soon enough. Also, this new deal should solidify him as a top prospect for bigger clubs.

Yeah he has. It even reads at the end of the article that he earned his first full cap against South Africa just recently.

Yep, with all the stars that Italy has, it's very good that he's starting to get playing time. (or even starting for the team)
