"In assembling his coaching staff, Mets manager Terry Collins mined a variety of sources.

He plucked the new bench coach, Ken Oberkfell, from the team's minor-league system. He brought along a trusted ally in new bullpen coach Jon Debus. He tabbed an old Oakland hand, Dave Hudgens, as his hitting coach.

And he reached into the Mets' past for his first-base coach, bringing Mookie Wilson back for his second stint with the big-league club. Wilson coached first base from 1997 to 2002.

They join the two holdovers from Jerry Manuel's staff, third-base coach Chip Hale and pitching coach Dan Warthen.

"We think we've got a good staff in place," Collins said during a conference call Monday night. "Ready to move forward."

With the staff assembled, the 2011 Mets are almost set. The team remains interested in another starting pitcher, with former San Diego Padre Chris Young still the major target.

Oberkfell, who interviewed for the managerial position, spent six years managing the team's Triple-A affiliate. Collins said Oberkfell was "one of the first guys" on his radar.

Oberkfell keeps an even keel. That should mesh well, the coaches believe, with Collins' more forceful style. Oberkfell sees himself as being "the calming guy, at times.""
