Morales gets in final blow for the Halos

ANAHEIM - As soon as the New York Yankees walked out of the first-base dugout Friday, anyone could tell something was different inside of Angel Stadium.

Chants of "Let's go Yankees" were met by boos, as the Angels and the New York Yankees faced off in Anaheim for the first time since last year's American League Championship Series in front of a sellout crowd.

The intensity in the stands was exceeded by the intensity on the field, as the Angels battled to a 6-4 victory. Kendry Morales broke up a 4-4 tie game in the top of the eighth with a two-run homer over the right-field fence against reliever Joba Chamberlain.

After the Angels scored a run in the first, things quieted down briefly. In the top of the third, a collision at the plate between the Yankees' Mark Teixeira as he scored a run and Angels catcher Bobby Wilson knocked Wilson out of the game and lit the fuse for the rest of the night.

The Yankees scored three runs in the third for a 3-1 lead, but doubles by Bobby Abreu, Juan Rivera and Maicer Izturis in the bottom half of the inning resulted in three for the Angels.

Nick Swisher hit a solo home run in the fourth to tie the score at 4, and it stayed that way until Morales' home run.

Hideki Matsui, last year's World Series MVP with the Yankees, led off the eighth with a single. Reggie Willits pinch ran before Morales drove a 1-1 pitch from Chamberlain (0-1) to right field for his fifth homer.

Angels starter Ervin Santana allowed eight hits and four runs in six innings. Santana struck out three, walked one and hit two batters in the no decision.

However, Santana and the bullpen held off the Yankees for the final five innings. Fernando Rodney got the victory, and Brian Fuentes pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
