<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">SAN ANTONIO - Coach Mike Brown has led the Cavaliers to two rewarding seasons. Soon, he personally might be rewarded for it.

According to team sources, once the NBA Finals are completed, Brown and the team are expected to enter talks about a raise and an extension of his contract.

While Brown has taken some criticism for his offensive schemes, team insiders report Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is thrilled with Brown's performance and his installation of a system that has turned the Cavs into a defensive juggernaut. Brown also has created a positive working relationship with the front office.

It was Gilbert who found and hired Brown, even before signing General Manager Danny Ferry, which only deepens their bond.

Brown's greatest success, though, might have been in February, when several of his players were questioning some of his philosophies in a rough patch when the Cavs lost 8-of-12 games. He responded by altering the lineup and meeting with team leaders. Brown told them if they followed his principals on defense that he would give them more freedom on offense.

The Cavs quickly turned things around and began a run that has led them to their matchup with the San Antonio Spurs in the championship round.

Brown is being paid a base salary of $2 million this season, which puts him in the lower half of coaches in the NBA. Last year, the Cavs picked up an option for the 2008-09 season worth $2.5 million.</div>

This is good and bad for the Cavs, in my opinion. It has been well-documented that Coach Brown is not the best coach in the NBA (closer to the worst, actually) but he is still young, like the Cavs team. It will almost be like a bunch of guys growing older and wiser together (Coach and Players), which should give the players and the coaches a good bond. In addition, Brown's defensive coaching is one of the best in the League, hence the Cavs' good defensive record.

I'm interested, and somewhat pleased, with this, and hope that Mike Brown, like the Cavaliers players, continues to improve.
