We've analyzed Damp to Dallas. And Damp to Indiana. And, Damp to Atlanta. We've talked about it in passing, but here's an update about Damp to New York. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Erick Dampier sweepstakes heated up in the Knicks' favor yesterday as team president Isiah Thomas made Golden State what one league official termed "a strong offer" ? Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington ? for the 7-foot Shaq stopper. The offer seems to be a better one than the proposal the Pacers recently had rejected ? Austin Croshere and Scott Pollard. Warrior GM Chris Mullin likes Croshere but has asked for Jonathan Bender, whom Pacer president Donnie Walsh won't include, a source said. The Hawks, who are under the salary cap and can sign Dampier outright without needing a sign-and-trade, are waiting to see if the Knicks or Pacers can work out a trade before they strike. Hawks GM Billy Knight ? along with Walsh ? drafted Dampier in Indiana. Golden State also has talked to Dallas. However, the Warriors are said to be mulling Thomas' offer, and league officials view the Knicks as front-runners. Dampier will likely to visit New York as soon as Tuesday. If the Warriors accept the Knicks' offer, it likely will blow up Thomas chances of landing the Bulls' combo guard, Jamal Crawford. But Thomas considers Dampier as big a priority as Crawford and will have to get very lucky to get both. Harrington, because of his expiring contract, was an integral piece to the Bulls' trade. </div> http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/18061.htm I like Mohammed. He's a tiny bit younger than Damp with a reasonable contract, and because he's been playing backup minutes, he could still break out and show us what his true potential is. Harrington isn't too bad, an undersized PF who could contribute and play limited minutes, or open up trading options.
It's an all right trade... I wanted a backup center over 7 feet (that isn't Mutombo). And I don't know if they would or can throw us a rookie like Trybanski.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">I'll take Sweetney over Harrington. Something is better than nothing...</div> My big worry is just taking on really bad contracts. The Knicks have got quite a few. So if you go for young talent you're bound to end up really paying for it.
Harrington's contract (3.1 mil) is up next year and Mohammed's contract (5.25-5.5 mil) is up the year after that, so that's not bad. I was checking out Mohammed, and his numbers aren't bad. He's had some big games and his per 48 minute averages last year (17.6 ppg, 14.8 rpg) aren't that much worse than Damp's (18.2 ppg, 17.7 rpg.) So instead of having Adonal Dampier, we could have Adonal Mohammed, which honestly doesn't sound bad. Getting Damp out of the west would also be a big benefit. Here's how I would rank my trade preferences: 1. Toronto-Carter 2. Indiana-Bender or Artest 3. NY-Mohammed and Harrington 3a. Dallas-Walker, Laettner, and Podkolzine 4. Memphis-Swift and Watson Obviously some of these trades involve moving more than just Damp, but since we all have read them multiple times, I didn't bother re-writing them.
What would be the catch with Toronto? We can't give up Jrich and Pietrus. That would just be disastrous.
The trade I was kicking around with og15 and some other Toronto fans in the Rumor Mill was Damp, Claxston, and either Richardson or Pietrus for Carter and something else. I wanted Araujo, but they've already signed him, so they can't trade him until Dec. 15th. I'd take a future 1st rounder though. They don't have any other young guys that I'd like.
