Al Iannazzone reported last week that KVH has a team option that comes due in October. Technically, he signed a three year deal, with all but the first at the Nets' option. In addition, ESPN, using NBA data, says that KVH has "limited salary protection" next year, meaning he has a buyout, much like Cliff Robinson had last year. If his contract isn't picked up by October, he gets more money. It's good for the Nets of course because it means they can trade his contract between July 1 and the date of his option in October and his new team can then buy him out and save the remainder. And his contract for trade purposes won't be based on this year's $4.3 million deal, but on whatever that second year is worth.

So I went back to Thorn's media availability the day of the trade to see if there is anything else in there that might indicate any other surprises. What I found was this exchange...

    Q. Trade exceptions?

    A. For Antoine we get one and for Keith. I don’t want to comment on the accuracy of numbers; that’s not up to me.

The beat reporters have reported two trade exceptions, of $1.68 million and $770,000. The first is easy to figure. That's Wright's salary this year. The second I assumed was an exception for Malik Allen, since $770,000 is what the Nets paid Allen this year under vets minimum.

But Thorn said one of the exceptions was "for Keith". I am hoping there are brighter minds out there who can help me figure this out. Obviously, the Kidd deal was structured as multiple trades. How is the issue.
