http://www.heavy.com/mma/mma-news/2010/06/ufc-on-versus-2-moved-to-san-diego/ The August 1 “UFC on Versus 2” event originally scheduled for the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City has been moved to San Diego. Sources close to the event informed Heavy.com of the switch this morning. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly. The event will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between fast-rising prospect Jon Jones and Vladimir Matyushenko. The co-main event of the evening features Mark Munoz taking on Yushin Okami. As Heavy.com first reported in April, Japanese star Takanori Gomi will make his second appearance for the company against Joe Stevenson. Many onlookers had questioned the original plan of holding a UFC event on a Sunday night in Salt Lake City, a city with heavy Mormon influences.
Poor ticket sales were the mitigating factor, it seems. Though the UFC does strongly in terms of television ratings, PPV buys and whatnot, according to the UFC, the event wasn't selling in Salt Lake. Hence the move to San Diego, otherwise known as A Whale's Vagina.
