If you were the owner of a large business (such as adidas or Nike) and you could only pick one player to sponsor and be set as the cornerstone of your company (they would be in all your magazine ads, shoe deals, commercials... pretty much the model of everything you'd made) Which player would you choose and why...
Lebron, no contest. Kobe would be the least marketable player. Well, scratch that, he'd be second to Keith Van Horn.
Allen Iverson and Lebron James are the most marketable personalities and players out right now. They appeal to the teen generation and the people ranging from 18-39 lol. They are very enthusiastic people and have every unique personalities which make them very appealing to people. AI appeals because of hs street cred were he came from and how he basically keeps it real and is himself not carring what people think about him or the way he looks. Lebron is the next jordan in the eyes of many kids basically a standard for what they can achieve if they work hard so he stands out to them. Then Jordan is still very marketable having some of the best shoes and things out on the market. Just from his career he can continue to make millions of year doing nothing, but just being MJ his career spoke for him now there are new Jordans out like every month and they always sell.
Hands down, Lebron. In a distant second AI and Tmac. The past few years, AI has been keeping Reebok afloat in the basketball shoe market, because their products suck (IMO), but people still buy the shoes because of AI. Tmac, of course, has his signature shoe sales to prove how marketable of a player he is. But Lebron has had far more impact on the market as a rookie who even failed to make the playoffs. Imagine how many more shoes and jerseys (his jersey, btw, was the highest-selling one in the NBA this year) he would sell if he made the playoffs too.
If Kobe wouldn't have been accused of anything, I would choose him. Now that his reputation has been put on hold, I would say LeBron James.
Right now, if I were the owner of Nike, Adidas, or some other basketball business, I would choose my man Kevin Garnett. He was MVP, and that means he's the most valuble anybody would want. He plays great on the court, a nice person off the court, and can certainly be wearing our gear, being in our magazines, wearing our shoes, and everything else. Hands down.
Yao Ming... only one Chinese player in the NBA who happens to be good... correct me if I am wrong, but China is home to 1+ billion people.... that equals $$$... ^strictly for business reason, not because I am greedy and want to grow fat off kick backs strictly business ...the continued influx of International players in the NBA, alongside the assumption that Yao will one day be the most dominant C in the game... really could allow me to sell him to many overseas nations where they will be willing to support a non-US player... (political beliefs etc...) his physical attributes which separates him from many NBA players is another tool which I could use to further market him... rather than another 6'7 guard... I have a 7'5 C to work with... much like AI being so small etc... as appealing as Lebron is, as this is a business question related to the NBA... I pick Yao Ming.
I think the market has already answered this one for you guys. It's LeBron. By a few miles or so. Even before the rape accusation Kobe couldn't sell shoes. Neither can KG. Iverson can sell shoes but not much else because he scares corporate America. T-Mac, in my opinion, sells the best shoes but he's too much of a prima donna to really be a corporate pitchman. That leaves one guy, and it's LeBron, followed by Yao.
vince of course he is very valuable to nike espsecially with shox....remember that old commercial where he dunked over GP with the big afro on...lol
wow...its easily iverson and lebron. rite now its iverson but in the future it will be lebron.how many basketball accesories do you see kobe or tmac have?not very much.i believe everybody noes that iverson rite now has his own semi-brand with reebok,I3.wen u go into a sporting good store into the basketball section wat do you see.yes, mostly iverson's I3 products(jersies,socks,headbands....etc). thats y rite NOW i wud def want iverson then lebron. but imagine if reebok has both iverson or lebron...or nike has both iverson and lebron. the company wud make so much money lol
