Now this isn't a thread meant to name who sucks, just people who you feel are overrated......let me remind people, that overrated, does not mean you're not good, it just means you're overrated. 1. Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt was classic material, but Jay really dumbed himself down after RD.........I always hear talk about how he's consistent, and while he does consistently sell albums, the quality of them isn't consistent.....Blueprint was a dope album, but it's not classic by any means.....he didn't even have the best verse on the album (that goes to Em). 2. 2 Pac - unlike Jay Z, I consider myself a fan of pac....with that being said, I'm tired of people calling him the greatest, just because they hear MTV say it......I grew up listening to Pac, but I hate to see people jock the man, just because it's the "cool thing to do" 3. Biggie - see 2 Pac
Eazy-E - I love this guy, but people hype him up too much because he created controversy. Its almost like they don't even listen to him. He was real and his more important accomplisment was sparking the gangsta rap genre.
Funny thing is Cube wrote Eazy's rhymes...lol........but yeah I liked Eazy, but he wasn't the greatest MC.
-Eazy E wasn't the greatest, i've never heard that claim, but he's still a great MC. I personally thought he wasn't even the best MC in NWA, Cube was( back in his Death Certificate days..) -I too am part of the "2Pac was not the greatest" campaign. He wasn't the greatest lyricist and didn't have the multis and delivery that someone like Nas or Rakim, but one thing he showed in his music was his passion, and that's why people love him. I'd still put him in my top 10 though.. -Ilove Jay Z and Reasonable Doubt is easily one of my top 5 albums of all time, but the mere fact that every time he drops a single, all the Hova-Stans calls it "Classic" and that pisses me off. That word has lost it's meaning. -BTW, i would't say Eminem is overrated, but he has FAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLEN OFF BIG TIME.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chutney:</div><div class="quote_post">Eazy-E - I love this guy, but people hype him up too much because he created controversy. He is often overlooked because 2pac and Biggie died shortly after him. While Cube wrote Eazys rhymes for Eazy-Duz-It, Eazy proved he could rap on his 187umkilla album where he murks Dre, Snoop and the entire Deathrow crew. Your an Eazy fan, Im sure you have heard tracks like Real Muthaphukkin Gs, Its On, Ole School Sh*t etc. Eazy, Dresta, and BG Knocc Out destroy Dre and Snoop. And now you think ya bigga/ But to me you aint nothin but a b*tch ass n*gga/ Learn a lesson from the Eaz/ Stay in your place and dont step to Real Muthaphukkin Gs/ However, I think we can all agree in saying that 50 sucks and is overrated. It really is a shame this guy sells millions of albums.
Nahh man, I'm definitely not questioning his skills. He was a good rapper and great producer. Eazy's one of my favourites. Not sure about how it is where everybody else lives, but people I know focus too much on his controversy. Like his sex jokes and how he exaggerated stuff. It kind of makes him seem gimmicky. And yea, "Real Mothaf***in' G'z" is like one of the best diss songs ever: "All of a sudden Dr. Dre is a G thang, but on his old album cover he was she-thang"
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">IHowever, I think we can all agree in saying that 50 sucks and is overrated. I always thought Biggie and Jay-Z were overrated, they're still top 10 MCs but I think they got overrated big time because Biggie was all the east coast had when the rap scene was dominated by the West Coast and Jay-Z took over after Biggie and Tupac died. Just my opinion but I also think Biggie wouldn't have been as famous if Tupac didn't have a fued with him. Theres alot of overrated MCs today, I generally don't even enjoy listening to the radio because music overall is so bad these days (rock and rap alike).
Allow me to rant: [rant]Am I the only one who thinks the whole "rap game" is overrated? I mean, from posting on JBB and a few other boards all these years, I've met a plethora people who have great writing skills, including a few people in this very thread. I'm sure if they put their minds to it, they could write some pretty decent lines. I just don't think it's that much of a talent but is rather something anyone with a thesaurus can do to kill time on a rainy day. I just know from working as a musician (bass, organ, guitar, etc.) for about the last ten years of my life that it's incredibly hard to write good music with an instrument, whereas these rappers think up a song in a few minutes and then recite it to a beat, and all of a sudden they get the same exposure, press, money, fame, respect, etc.[/endrant] Anyway, now that I've completely insulted everything you guys stand for (), I'd have to say that Kanye West is as overrated as they come. People try to convince me that his lyrics have substance, but they're sorely lacking. His beats are nice, but that's all he's good for in my eyes. I also think Saul Williams is bordering on overrated, which is kind of odd, because no one seems to know who he is, but amongst those who do know him, he's treated like a god, despite the fact that 99% of the lines he spits (sic) are nonsensical, racist trash.
Kanye is overrated for sure but as far as writing lyrics with creativity, listen to the Wu Tang Clan. They are crazy with their lyrics. Here is a snippet of Insepctah Decks' lyrics on Triumph <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies and hypothesis can't define how I be droppin these mockeries, lyrically perform armed robbery Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits tremendous, ultra-violet shine blind forensics I inspect you, through the future see millenium Killa B's sold fifty gold sixty platinum</div> I'm not sure if your a rap fan or not, if you are you will most likely know about this but as far as production and lyrics goes, they have it all. As your a musician, I'm sure you'll appreciate the production by the RZA on the Wu Tang albums, particularly Enter the 36 Chambers. If you haven't heard it, I would recommend you get it, the production alone is worth the money. Another bonus if that you will rarely find a chorus on the album, so you know theyt are about pure lyrics. From the top of my head, there's probably around 3 songs on the album with lyrics. The golden era for rap music was probably from 1988-1994 as far as great albums dropping, from then, it slowly turned into a fashion show.
Just download still cruisin by eazy and game, awesome song. Eazy is my favorite all time and he is underrated as Bobcats said. People do think less because 2Pac and Biggy had that monsterous beef and ended up whacking each other. Without Eazy E there is no 2Pac, Biggy, Dre or any of these all time greats.

Both needed each other as much as each other. 2Pac and Biggie would have been 2Pac and Biggie, with or without Eazy E. I'm sure he was an influence but I wouldn't go as far as saying they wouldn't be where they were.

Kanye West = overrated
I only have two words for this thread: Kanye West. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programing
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Listen to the lyric as the negative is shrinkin It's shrinkin out your life when you decide to change your thinkin One of the first things we gotta switch around of course Is Jesus Christ, and him dying on the cross You're looking at the cross, surrounded in it's mystery With Jesus on the cross in a, total misery Now seperate Jesus from the cross so you can see The truth about the cross, and the cross's history The cross was created by the Roman government It's only purpose and use, is cap-i-tal punishment But Jesus Christ, was all about the revolution While the cross was used as Jesus Christ's execution See what if Jesus Christ, was hung upon a tree Upon every church wall, that's exactly what you'd see If Jesus Christ, was shot in the head with no respect We'd all have little gold guns around our neck If Jesus Christ was killed in electic chair, now get it You'd be knealing to the electric chair with Jesus, still in it You gaze upon the cross, and you see the execution You yell stop the violence but the cross you're still using KRS One - The Truth</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Knowin you the best part of life, do I have the right to take yours Cause I created you, irresponsibly Subconciously knowin the act I was a part of The start of somethin, I'm not ready to bring into the world Had myself believin I was sterile I look into mother's stomach, wonder if you are a boy or a girl Turnin this woman's womb into a tomb But she and I agree, a seed we don't need You would've been much more than a mouth to feed But someone, I woulda fed this information I read to someone, my life for you I woulda had to leave Instead I lead you to death I'm sorry for takin your first breath, first step, and first cry But I wasn't prepared mentally nor financially Havin a child shouldn't have to bring out the man in me Plus I wanted you to be raised within a family I don't wanna, go through the drama of havin a baby's momma Weekend visits and buyin J's ain't gon' make me a father For a while bearing a child is somethin I never wanted to do For me to live forever I can only do that through you Nerve I got to talk about them ni**az with a gun Must have really thought I was God to take the life of my son I could have sacrificed goin out To think my homies who did it I used to joke about, from now on I'ma use self control instead of birth control Cause $315 ain't worth your soul $315 ain't worth your soul $315 ain't worth it Common - Retrospect 4 Life </div> I understand your views on certain rappers voodoo child, because there are a lot of wack dudes out nowadays giving hip hop a bad name, but verses like the ones above show that there is a lot of thought put into good lyrics.......I know when I write that sometimes it takes me days to finish a verse.

Deck is incredibly ill, but I think he's always overshadowed individually, because Only Built For Cuban Linx, Supreme Clientel, and Liquid Swords s#!% all over his solo material.
50 Cent, The Game, All these new fake rappers. Lil Jeazy or whatever the hell.... just plain garbage and overrated. No one can touch the real rappers like Jurrassic 5, Method Man, Redman, Wu-Tang Clan, Cannibus, KRS-One, Rakim, Outkast, and so many more. You are prolly wondering why Outkast since they are weird, its because they aren't commercialized like all those other garbage people like Dem Franchise boyz, and other garbage. Most music nowadays is becoming too commercialized for my taste, hell even Vanilla Ice was better than half these suckas. I said aloud one day that this new music is becoming more and more to my disliking, and my step father replied, " Thats how it is when you get older. Music changes....". Somehow I do feel old....
thought I'd another to the list Lil Wayne - I swear if I hear one more idiot claim he's the best rapper alive, I'm gonna go upside their head with a skillet.
