I like Gauthier. He's super fast for his size but I like Motte also because he can be a top PK guy and can handle a 4th line role better. Better vs. the small, weak, Devils fast players.

Motte is a UFA. These little moves save cap room next season.

It's an admission by Drury that he made a mistake.

Yeah, I thought they should have kept him. The first three lines are set. He's building the 4th line for the playoffs. Now go get Monahan for a rental. Motte-Monahan-Goodrow. If they can get out of the first round, they will be tough then if Igor pulls his head out of his ass.

Chuck mentioned Bjugstad and I've seen his name mentioned too. Monahan would be good also.

Bjugstad is not an above average faceoff guy. That move would suck.

Funny, I have been saying get Motte, and they got him. I mention a couple of names, and they get one. Dump makes up 506982451752045124512450218215014512459721721450721512501450145182 trades and mentions as many names, and never gets one right. Good stuff.

Anyway, I like the move. For the 4th line Motte is a better fit, and it absolutely is cleanup of a mistake Drury made by not bringing him back this summer for only $1.35M. He slots in great with Goodrow on an excellent 4th line, and is a very fine PK guy who can skate well.

The conditional 7th becomes our worse 6th if we make round 2 (we have the Jets 6th rounder in addition to ours). So hopefully this trade will be Gauthier and a 6th FOR Motte - and remember Gauthier is a RFA with arbitration rights this summer - which we didn't want to deal with, so no way he'd be back next season, so Drury got something that improves the team now.

As for where we sit - doesn't look like the Sens ate any of Motte's cap hit, so we added a pro-rated share of 535K (Motte's cap hit is $1.35 and Gauthier's cap hit is 800K). Not a big difference, but still puts us tighter against the cap.

At this point I think another big fish with a higher cap hit is done - Drury doesn't make this deal I don't think if he planned to go big cap hit wise. I think Kane is out. I don't see how Monahan works either with a $6.375M cap hit. I think a guy like Bjugstad, with a 900 K cap hit, is the range we are looking IF we add anything else. He has size, can play C, can score 12-15 goals over the season, and has had seasons where he has won 50% + of his FO's (55% won last season). Not saying it will be him, but if Drury adds more I am thinking it will be that type of cap hit player for the 4th line, not a bigger fish. There is also a chance he is done now outside of maybe a very lesser Hartford type depth add.

    Kreider/Z/Tank
    Pan/Tro/Vesey
    Laf/Chytil/Kakko
    Goodrow/Motte/?

    Lindgren/Fox
    Miller/Trouba
    Mikkola/Sch

That is a very good deep team. Who finishes the 4th line is the only open question. That is a team I think wins round 1 against NJ for sure (that series is just about locked in unless one team catches the Canes). From there we have a shot - just like a handful of other good teams do. But remember the Canes, Devs, Bruins, and maybe TB have a move left in them before the DL. Does one get Kane? The Devs will almost for sure get Meier from the Sharks. So these other teams will improve. Which is why I'd like one more Drury move to cap the 4th line. We'll see what he does.

Another nice move by Drury to improve the 4th line. From what I read preseason the offer was there for Motte but he didn't want the role so he went to Ottawa where there was more opportunity. All that matters is he's back.

As usual, NYfan, you’re a fucking moron. I said before the year they shouldn’t let Motte or Vatrano go, but you don’t like facts cause you’re a retard. Plus your pee brain obviously can’t understand the idea of proposing a trade and actually having it come true is like winning the lottery you stupid fuck.

Sadly, you are an example of the tools we have on the board. People that actually think trade ideas should come true. I find it amusing you didn't bring up that I wanted Drury to trade for Copp about 2 months last year before it happened. We call that kind of person a selective memory dickhead.

I posted this in last years trade deadline

"Another player to keep an eye on. Andrew Copp. Good size. Tough. Can score. Wins 54% of his draws. Is a UFA after this season. Which tells me he doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg. He would be even more perfect than Gourde. He'll be 28 next season. Right now he's out with an upper body injury but he should be back soon. The Jets are stuck in limbo. They can't lose him for nothing and they have no cap room to try and sign him. They will have a hard enough time signing Dubois. They are not a playoff team IMO. Honestly, Chytil and Hajek for Copp would be something the Jets could not turn down. It would be up to the Rangers to see if Copp would be willing to sign here. Or maybe it would be a sign and trade. He's worth locking up 5 years, 5 million. It also gives you insurance if Strome asks for a stupid contract."

"I see Barron and Gauthier going at some point. I agree, Vatrano I'd like to see extended for a couple of seasons. I'm not bringing back Rooney either. If they keep Vatrano, the 4th line will most likely be Reeves-Goodrow-Blais."

Well Barron went. Gauthier a year later. I like Gauthier. I guess they didn't want to pay him. I mean, he doesn't make much but there are about 3-5 guys making 7 to 900 K that they will need to free up to sign Miller, Chytil and Lafreniere. Every bit helps.
