So what's first? The cutting of Hamiliton is a guarentee it seems, but then what? I wish we had a chance to see more of him play, loved his defense against Miami. Nice guy too.
Nets have to cut down to 15 by Thursday afternoon, so expect any last minute trades to take place over the next 36 hours, like they did last year when the Nets traded Bernard Robinson, Mile Ilic and a lot of cash to the Hornets for David Wesley...then both teams proceeded to cut the players within a day...all to the avoid the luxury tax. KVH has to be cut, which would leave the team with 15 guaranteed deals plus Gill, Hodge and Hamilton. I expect some minor, money saving deal. Nets dont need to get under tax threshold, but there are 11 teams over the threshold now. Other possibility is that some player the Nets like becomes available and then sign him...or trade Ager and cash for him.
vow, 11 teams over the LTT, and we can't get a starting SF for something around KVH + Sean? Out of the 11 teams, how many, and wich ones would get under the threshold if they traded for KVH?
I have been told that the league might not approve another KVH trade, that it's told the Nets it would take a long and hard look at any such deal. But with recent roster changes, the number of teams over the tax has dropped to nine...as of yesterday. Here's the list and how much they are over: Knicks ($27.0M), Mavericks ($23.9M), Cavaliers ($19.2M), Lakers ($11.9M), Celtics ($10.4M), Nuggets ($6.3M), Suns ($5.6M), Rockets ($2.3M) and Heat ($439K). The Nets are roughly $10 million under the threshold. Assuming that the contract could be moved, two teams are less than $3.8 million--KVH's non guaranteed salary for next season--over the tax threshold: the Rockets and Heat. The Raptors, on the other hand, are $1.1 million under the threshold and they might want to get some additional wiggle room.
yes, i doubt the Nets will be able to trade KVH. THe league, in all its wisdom, was focused on getting Jason Kidd onto a "winner", which could only be accomplished by allowing KVH to be traded last year. --there's no incentive to help the Nets out now.
I don't understand how the league could say no to a KVH deal... He has a legit contract with 2 years left (altough not guaranteed)... I'ts not like we are trying to do a S&T with a retired player, like Dallas did... We have a player under contract, who is inactive. There is nothing wrong with trading him imo... Rockets, Heat, Raptors, huh? maybe even Suns or Denver, if it can be a big enough deal, where 25% +100k + the unguaranteed part of KVH's 3,75 can cover a bigger slary cut for these teams... Bulls are another team, that wants to cut expenses.. I'm really thinking about starting level SFs. who could easily put Simmons on the bench. Houston has Battier... Would they give him up for Sean and KVH? Heat have Marion, Dorell Wright and maybe even james Jones... Jones for KVH works. but i'm not sure it helps us... wright for KVH doesn't work, we have to make it a package... like KVH + Stro for Wright + Blount? Or Marion for KVH + Stro + Sean + Hassell? I think i'd do the last 2... Raptors have Kapono and Parker, but i'm not sure i want KApono, and they probably won't give up Parker. Suns have Diaw, who has a contract, we wouldn't want... but KVH + Hassell for Diaw + Tucker would pobably work, and get them under the tax... Denver has Melo, so they are our best partner. and we can put them under the tax!! something like KVH + Stro + Sean (~11,5 mill for trade, but only ~8mill guaranteed) for Melo (14,4 mill) would put them right under the threshold. Chicago is my other favourite, since I'd still love Nocioni. KVH + Sean/Hassell + Stro for Nocioni + Cedric Simmons? I'd do it in a heartbeat.. Let's hope something happens by tomorrow!!! Be it Melo, Nocioni, Battier, or even Marion or Dorrell Wright... Anybody, just please let's get a starting SF...
I'm seeing a starting lineup appearing that includes carter, harris, Yi, and Brook. Not sold on Simmons at all.
simmons is just a 3 pt shooter... an overpaid 3 pt shooter... we should of just traded for JJ ^^ umm its gonna be hard to pull any of these trades... unless they believe in sean more than we do :/
yeah no way rockets trade for another PF unless its allstar. THey got Scola, Landry, and Hayes at PF. wtf would nets do with battier anyway... nets need expiring contracts and picks. I dont think the rockets pick will be anywhere higher than 25 and they already traded it to Sac. Maybe heat will give nets something like a pick.
Hoopshype salary page says Battier expires in 2010... And they do it, to get under the LTT. This trade i'm hoping for is not at all about getting expirers and picks for the Nets. I want a quality starting SF for the next 2 seasons. Preferably Melo, but Nocioni or Battier will do it for me just fine
I think KVH is why they do it. Sean is just something that actually has basketball value, not only business value. But getting under the LTT could be much more important for some teams.
But why would theRockets trade a player(battier) that fits perfectly with the team for a Sean and an expiring? Especially when the player coming to the team(Williams) arguably wont get PT(C.Hayes,Artest, Landry, etc would be ahead of Sean in the rotation). They can make other moves that wouldnt cripple their team.
If they would, mainly because Battier earns too much to be a bench player. And to get under the LTT.. But probably they would pass... we would probably have to add a pick... I hope for Melo first, Nocioni second, and Battier is just an alternative... probably nothing will happen, and we just cut KVH, but i still hope
