"A short-handed Mariners bench grew a little thinner Wednesday as starting shortstop Jack Wilson hurt his knee running out a bunt in the third inning of Seattle's 8-3 loss to Tampa Bay, forcing backup Josh Wilson into action. With left fielder Milton Bradley already out after telling the Mariners he needed help dealing with a personal issue earlier in the day, the Mariners were left with just designated hitter Mike Sweeney and backup catcher Adam Moore as able-bodied replacements while losing their fifth straight game. Jack Wilson said he's hoping his injury is just the result of some scar tissue breaking loose in the same right knee that caused him to miss several games at the start of spring training. If so, he suspects he'll be fine, but the Mariners won't know exactly what they're looking at until they see how he's feeling on Thursday. "He's day to day and we'll reevaluate tomorrow," manager Don Wakamatsu said. If Wilson is out even a short time, the Mariners likely will need to make a move to bolster their depth. Bradley was on the bench for much of Wednesday's game, but his status is very uncertain at this point." http://blog.seattlepi.com/baseball/archives/204851.asp?source=rss
