MTV aired a special today where they had a panel select the top ten MC's in the game today. Here is the list they came up with: 10) Jim Jones 9) Common 8) 50 Cent 7) Jay-Z 6) Young Jeezy 5) Kanye West 4) Andre 3000 3) Game 2) T.I. 1) Lil Wayne They had explanations for each selection and I'll post them if you want me too. Anyways, what are your thoughts?
I think that's random as hell and just a ploy for ratings. How can some of those guys even be considered the same genre? MTV is garbage, as is most modern mainstream rap.
LOL Jim Jones? 50 over Common? Young Jeezy? 50 will boycott MTV now for having Game over him. What a ridiculous list.
yeah I saw this a couple of days back...don't be alarmed it's MTV....they through Common in there just to say "hey we got some real hip hop in here"..oh well I'll break down the list...and I'll do it fairly considering MTV is basing this on the mainstream 10) Jim Jones - he doesn't even make it for being a mainstream artist...does anyone really care about this guy 9) Common - would make my list, but he's one of the "token" rappers on this list 8) 50 Cent - popular as hell in the mainstream, but he hasn't dropped an album since '05 7) Jay-Z - powerful powerful man, BUT that last album was monkey balls 6) Young Jeezy - he is "hot" right now, but I still can't get over how bad this guy is 5) Kanye West - I'm not a fan, but I see why he makes it 4) Andre 3000 - I love Andre Ben, but Big Boi outshined him on Idlewild and his guest appearance verses have been overrated by a lot of people....probably my most favorite MC ever, but this isn't the same Andre 3) Game - I liked the first album, still have yet to hear the 2nd album....decent MC, but needs to stop name dropping and acting like an ass off the mic 2) T.I. - boooooooooooooooring.....I guess he deserves to be here, because his album is one of the few that actually sells nowadays, but this guy is just a bore fest on the mic 1) Lil Wayne - he would deserve to be here also based on popularity, but he's still lacking in the talent department I personally thought Chamillionaire should've made it ...especially over Jim Jones...on the commercial level I think he's the best MC out of the south right now....even better than my man Andre.........I also thought Cee Lo should've made it for Gnarls Barkley....I don't think anyone on this list had a song hotter than "Crazy"

If it wasn't him, it'd be Q-Tip or Talib Kweli. MTV/BET eat those guys up. They're great MC's in their own rights, but it's weird to throw them on a list with guys like 50 cent. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I personally thought Chamillionaire should've made it ...especially over Jim Jones...on the commercial level I think he's the best MC out of the south right now....</div> Ahead of Project Patta? I don't know about that.

Here is the link to it and their reasons: http://www.mtv.com/bands/h/hip_hop_week/2007/hottest/ Here is a link to MTV's top 10 greatest MC's of all time: http://www.mtv.com/bands/h/hip_hop_week/2006/emcees/
Aside from Common and Andre, that list is trash. MTV, lawlz. Common's only gettin' recognition because Oprah's all over his jock, BTW.
I'm not going to complain about the 'Hottest MC's in the game right now' list, because it seems to be more of a popularity based poll, and I cant argue with Lil' Wayne being #1 there. I was looking at their top 10 of all time list, and I was actually surprised at how reasonably decent it was, as I was going on, seeing Rakim, KRS, BDK had actually managed to make the list, although they were like in the late - mid of it, then by the time I got to about #5, it all went to sh*t. And after seeing Tupac at #2, I just knew that Jay-Z would be the #1. Jay-Z would honestly struggle to make my top 10, let alone top 5. Their reasoning behind their selection was trash aswell: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Is Jay really not just "the best rapper alive," but the greatest of all time? Just look at what Hov's done for the game: He has headlined several major hip-hop tours and brought along his peers, rapped alongside a Beatle at the Grammys and thugged out Madison Avenue, emphasizing that a rapper's clothing line or brand of sneaker can be successful.</div> O...k... could we not throw 50 Cent in this same category?
Even if they did get that "Hottest in the Game" list right, I wouldn't really care about it. Real lyrical talent rarely translates into popularity. That said, this list is utter bullsh*t.
