But he gave a noncommittal answer when asked if he'd be interested in the job. "Right now, I am happy where I am," said Mullin, a special assistant for the NBA's Golden State Warriors. A confidant of Mullin's said yesterday the idea of coaching St. John's was probably not something he had anticipated would be an option. "I think he's always thought of being a front-office guy in the (pros), like the Jerry West type," the confidant said. </div> New York Daily News
Yeah, saw that one too Dex. Here's what the NY Post had to say: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The greatest player in St. John's history is confident the team can return to the glory years of the past, but Chris Mullin says he isn't interested in becoming the Red Storm's next coach. At least, not right now. "I have a job," Mullin told The Post at halftime of yesterday's St. John's game against Penn in the Holiday Festival. "Everyone associated with St. John's wants what's best for them - players that play the right way and that play together. It's nothing magical. It's what we had when we played for coach [Lou] Carnesecca." </div> Full story: http://www.nypost.com/sports/4830.htm
Yeah, & he can bring Jason Wlliams off of trail for murder to be an assistant coach. Maybe he can show Kyle Kuff that 6-11 big men dont only shoot threes. And then he can go get Mark Jackson from what ever old folks home he is at. So he can teach ellijah Ingram that it is actually ok if a point guard passes the ball every now & then. Someone needs to tell him that 33% from the field is not a great shooting%, its a great batting avg. This must be a joke. they fire on of the best college coaches to bring in a former player, please Mike Jarvis was far from the problem. Its the type of players ST John's has given scolarships to these past few years. Players like Willie Shaw, Kyle Kuff. They are all weak. It really hurt St johns when Daruis Miles decided to become an NBA garbage time player instead of going to play for the Red strom like he said he would. So they have had to live with guys like Marcus Hatten & now Ingram being their best player. The last great St jons team was the Ron Artest-Anthony Glover-lavor Postell-Cook team that lost to Micheal Redd & Mike Singleton-Sconnie Penn Ohio State team in the Elite 8. So unless Chris Mullen has some way to bring legit high school All-americans to ST.John's then bringing him end will be nothing more than a show.because the Johnes will still suck.
I heard a rumor about Jackson potentially being named the coach, but the Mullen idea is new. Personally, I think Jackson would be a better coach, and that Mullen is better off in GState, where he's gonna be the next GM.
Yeah, I got that Jackson story last week. I agree with you, he would be a better fit for SJU right now. Very intelligent player. If not at St. Johns, he'll make a great coach for someone.
