<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Said a Warriors insider: ``Mully's goal has been to clear enough cap space in two years to make a run at Yao Ming. That was a big reason he wanted to get out from under Jamison's contract.'' Great. Stink for two more years, then hope Houston is stupid enough not to do everything in its power to keep Yao, who by then could be the NBA's most dominant player. Sounds like a plan.</div> Do any of you Warrior fans actually think that the Rockets would be dumb enough to not offer Yao an extension, or not to match any offer the Warriors might try to tempt Yao with? I know some of you fans really like Yao and want him in Golden State (Ahem, Custodianrules2), but do you really think it's plausible to have arguably the best young player with the most potential join you as a free agent? I hardly know why any of you would even believe that you can. What I want to know is why you Warrior fans and obviously Mullin think that you have a shot at Yao when other teams probably don't even have any thought of it? Is there a reason?
From a marketing standpoint, it makes sense for Yao to play in the Bay Area. A large Chinese community and Asian community on the whole, means a greater possibility for promotion and advertising. Why wouldn't it be a plausable? The chances may be slim, but who should we have gotten this year, Okur? Boozer? Good players, but they're ultimately not franchise changers. Keep the core, let them grow, and put yourself in position for a windfall. That's the straight dope.

First off, they are rumors. Did you hear Mullin speak those words? You should know better than to take a rumor that seriously. Of coarse the Rockets are going to do everything in their power to keep him but why wouldn't fans be wishful in wanting Yao? Thats all it is, wishful thinking.
Chance of us getting Yao? One in a million. Just imagine what Yao will have to do to come here. 1. After next season, there is no question that Houston will offer Yao max. Yao has to reject that offer, even if that means risking career ending injuries or disappointing season at this contract year. 2. A year after that Yao becomes restrct FA and Houston will offer max dollar to Yao again. And, unfortunately, we cannot offer Yao max dollar that year, because that's exactly what Houston wants. Yao has to settle for less money, and risks yet another year of career ending injury or disappointing season at his career year. 3. A year after that Yao becomes unrestricted FA and hope that Warriors has enough desire and caproom to offer him a max dollar. If you are Yao, would you really want to wait two seasons of no security and less money to come here? Yes, there are huge number of Chinese population in here, but what will do to Yao? If he can average 40 pts instead of 20 pts in Houston, because of all the cheering he will get, we are talking about different story. But, that's not going to happen. Heck, he just got one of top 5 players in NBA as his teammate. In terms of money, security and fame, Houston is currently better fit then us. It's not going to happen...

If Yao let's say demanded to be traded to Golden State we could offer a lot of good trade pieces for him similar to what Miami did to get Shaq. Yao would cause the arena to sell out every home game and having him would be almost an instant lock to get to the playoffs if you give him the ball more than 5 times like Steve Francis/Mobley didn't do.
