Some close to the situation say that this was Rowell's way of offering an olive branch to Mullin -- "I'm not going to fire you, but I will fire someone close to you." In other words, Rowell basically saying that, while he thinks Mullin should stay with the organization, he's still showing he's in charge.
Man I really feel for you guys. We have a guy similar to Rowell up here in Toronto. His name is Richard Peddie. And since the same company owns both the Raptors and Maple Leafs, we've had to deal with him messing around with our two biggest pro teams for years. When Colangelo came up, he had it stipulated in his contract that no non-basketball people could bother him or be around the locker room while he was in charge. And it's been the best thing that happened to our franchise.
