Calvin Murphy wont be returning as a play-by-play announcer for the Rockets next season. In his replacement, the organization chose to go with Cynthia Cooper, opposed to former Rocket Matt Bullard. I'll try and find a link that verifies this but this has been reported elsewhere as true as well. Cooper is atrocious as an announcer and I'm shocked that they surpassed the affable and informative Bullard for the highly obnoxious and irritating Cooper. Bill Worrell will still remain as announcer.
It was reported in the Clutchfans.com BBS Forum, but the person with the Username "Tim" who is affiliated with the Rockets Marketing Team, said this was not true. Though they are looking for a "Color" Commentator: That's not something we're considering right now. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't know where the rumor came from ... Clutch, you may want to question your source on that one. Doesn't sound too reliable. Plans are to bring Coop back for halftime. I know there are mixed opinions on that here. (I'm not saying 50/50. Mixed.) We feel she made significant improvements during the season, and that she's taken a big leap forward doing analyst work on the Comets televised games. Calvin's situation is a lot more complicated, obviously. We hope for the best, but obviously I'm not going to comment any more than that in this forum. It's far too sensitive an issue. Tim</div> Again: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I'll back up that point. I'll repeat -- we're not looking at her for the Rockets color job -- but she's done a great job in that role for the Comets. If you haven't watched those games, you should. She gets to focus on basketball commentary there, which she's very comfortable doing. A studio job can sometimes be tougher to learn for someone who has a lot of experience in the sport but not in front of the camera. Good observation. Tim</div> I dont know if this is true or not, but I'd rather have Bull do them.. He didnt stray off subject like Calvin, but he wasnt that in to it. But he did very well during the Playoffs.
