http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/429...d_racial_slurs/The fan apparantly called mutombo a monkey and insulted his family and race. Mutombo "gestured" back and yelled back.I don't see too much of a reason to do anything to mutombo. Maybe tell him not to gesture next time, as there are kids there, but toss the guy out for life.
How dare he do that to Mutombo? He's the man, and such a great person. I also hope that fan knows that Mutombo would literally rip him apart. I hate racist people, it's so wrong, especially in this instance when he's in a crowd calling out a race. I'm suprised there wasn't an african guy around him that bashed his head in.
Could you imagine Dikembe Mutombo running into the stands after the guy? That would blow my mind. Sure it would be out of line for Mutombo to do that but it is more understandable considering his backround than Ron Artest throwing a fit over a cup of ice. I'm suprised Magic fans (suprising this game was not in Texas) didn't do something about the guy that did it (maybe they did). I tend to just ignore racists and not give them the time of day...But then again I'm white and have not lived through racism.
Good news guys, that guy who yelled racial slurs to Mutombo was banned for one year: http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/430...d_for_one_year/ Good, he deserved it. That fan should consider himself lucky he didn't get beat down in the stands by an african person. I wish he had been, but I'm glad he was banned for a year.
He also issued statement apologizing to Mutombo, and said he wanted to be given the opportunity to personally apologize to him as well. It's good to see that the guy was banned for a year though. If players are fined/suspended because they taunt fans or make inappropriate gestures at them, then the fans should also be penalized (and in some instances the teams) when they get too far out of line. The usual heckling is fine because that is part of the game, but there is no excuse for yelling racial slurs towards players.
