So I have been sitting around with a load of time on my hands and I have a lot of time on my hands and I thought of this book idea. A young african american male that stay's in this house thats extremely old that is like 100 years old.So the boy who is currently living in the house finds a diary of a simlilar boy who lived in the house like in the 30's and 40's back when Detroit was mainly a white city.So the story compares Detroit then and now through the eyes of the two males. So what do any of you think of the idea and would you read the book?
Hmm. I like the idea of how you could portray a boy in Detroit in the 20's and 30's and now, since alot has changed and that could have a good meaning behind it. But its kinda clique for a story to have someone finding someone elces diary, ect

Could black people write in the 1920's and 1930's? (I'm talking in general) Probably a tiny percentage. It would be an interesting book, good idea BFree.
I've thought about moving the years up a little once I considered that BCB but my grandmother was born around the 30's and 40's she could write but she said like 87% of her friends at the age 12 didn't really have a real edu. at the level it is now.
I'd definitely read it. Nice topic idea. You would need to do a lot of research about life in the 20's/30's. It would be a sweet book though.
well...he can bookmark this thread and show people you said you would steal it....just what I would do though..lol.
For some reason when I read your idea, it sounded like it had been done before. It really depends on what you add to the story. Because the basic plotline like Lazy said, is cliche. Your take and what happens in the story is what I'm interested in.
Personally, I'd set it in South Africa. Apartheid over there was even more unfathomable then it was back then. Plus, you'd also be able to get the African traditions into it, probably give you more material to write about.
