Yes, but depending on what he does (MP, infantry, medic) even Afghanistan isn't that bad anymore. Maybe over a beer someday I can tell you what I think is happening (vis-à-vis coalition leadership and orders) but for now I'll say that there are extreme measures being taken to keep people "safe"--like, say, not leaving bases. If he goes to Iraq or Syria, though, tell him to keep his head on a swivel.
