The Denver Nuggets: surprise of the year?

After a dismal 2002-2003 season (17-65), few could have foreseen even a spec of dust at the end of the tunnel, however the small opening has turned into a blinding flood light, emitting its rays across the Pepsi Centre, and wherever its team travels.

This ray of light (often referred to as Carmelo Anthony) has rubbed off on the whole roster. Right from the dizzy heights of 6-11 Brazilian born Nen?, to his knee-high companion Earl Boykins, the transformation is clear. These players have stood tall (well maybe not Earl) and shone through in the face of adversity. And guess what, I haven't even talked about the puppy faced wonder kid Carmelo yet.

This boy's accolades are immense: Named Second-Team All-America by AP as a freshman...Led Syracuse to a 30-5 record and the school's first NCAA Championship in men's basketball...Named Most Outstanding Player of the 2003 Final Four and East Regional...... The list goes on and as Im sure everyone is aware, Denver selected him as the #3 overall pick in the 2003 draft. So who was drafted before him, well, some kid called James or something, and an intriguing player, Darko Milicic. He hasn't been putting up numbers to compare to LeBron or Carmelo, but as Larry Brown finds the need to use him, Im sure his career will prosper.

Anyway, back to Denver, and the point of my article, which I have slightly side-tracked from, Will Denver Make The Playoffs?. They are currently 18-11, and hold the 5th seed in the west, closely behind a team rich in superstars, Minnesota.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Nuggets play this year, and truly believe that they will hold onto their 5th place seed. And what happens after that? Western Conference finals? Well, who knows, stranger things have happened.
