I'm serious, she's out and out angry. All acutely aimed Trump's way.

That said, every time we all get together, all she wants to do is argue politics....as if I could do anything about it..

I've come to the point where I refuse to engage. Life and family is too precious to go down that seemingly futile path. I mean, seriously.

Anyone else in here have similar issues.....from either side?

It's as if she thinks you get to vote or something, isn't it? It's as if she's afraid you are going to vote - again - for someone who will harm both you and her.

I know, right? Having your opinions challenged is not something you'd want to spend time on.

Not in my family per se, but there's a guy on a message board who thinks if he closes his eyes, covers his ears, and chants 'abortion bad, Trump good', everything will work out fine.

She's very normal, and I love her. She just wants to talk politics 24/7. There are far many more other things to talk about and enjoy. Just wish she could step up (and away) every now and then. Afterall, we're family. These things, too, shall pass.

It's only a problem if you allow it to become one.
This little bit of a post you made implies you put all the blame on her. Which is a typical point made by every conservative I've ever met.

Members of my family and I are very different on political stances.
They'll vote red no matter the candidate or if they agree with them.
I otoh don't follow mindlessly like sheep.
We've come to an agreement. Neither of us will bring up politics because while both sides have points. Political discussions come down to a sad one-ups man ship of the other.

At the end of the day the way you phrased the title and your OP shows that you and your sister are equally at fault.
But the way you phrased it, you only see your sister to being at fault.

As mentioned, I refuse to talk about politics, period, with her. I want to enjoy her as my sister...as a person. She just has so much hate for Trump, she can't help herself venting to me. I'll absolutely listen, but I've since refrained from response. I ask if we could just change the subject and talk about the beautiful trails near The Dalles. I totally understand she (and most of you) hates Trump. Seriously, though, do we really want to destroy relationships over him? Chances are, he won't last past next year. Conversely, (family/friends) relationships are for a lifetime.

Joking aside, I understand her position. I have a similar situation in my family. In this scenario I am your sister and you are my parents. Personally, it frustrates me more than almost anything else in my life. Because I'm an example guy, let's just take one example and go with it and see what you think: to hear my Christian, kind, generous, volunteering, etc etc etc mother say that Trump's pussy grabbing comments were just "locker room talk" was perhaps the most astonished I've ever been in my life. I actually did the mouth open thing. She has granddaughters, and by joining of the Trump cult, she has lost the respect of her eldest granddaughter, I fear, forever. Why? Because it is hypocritical to the values she espouses, of course. And everyone despises hypocrisy.

I totally understand how your sister feels; it just kills me that my parents can't see what practically the entire planet can; that they hear that bumbling bully babble his dementia-ridden, self-aggrandizing, rage-filled alternative facts and are like: "Yeah, that makes sense." Your sister and I are frustrated (Tell her Wesley says hi!). It's like living in a satire that quit being funny a long, long time ago.

I do understand, Wes. (May I call you 'Wes'?) I'm aware of your concerns/issues. I'm more about the platform, as opposed to the player.

My father takes that position. And then we can together lament the two party system. It's our release valve. Maybe that's the answer for you and your sister...

(You can call me Wes if you'd like, but I don't prefer it.)

Both sides have very extreme views. But for the most part, far right people acknowledge your freedom to have a different opinion then theirs.

While the far left takes the position that you must agree with them, support, and validate their views. Or everything you believe in is wrong, even unrelated topics.

I've heard that, and it is interesting. My mother always says her liberal friends act like she's a moron...

What I see is this...let's use examples (not to argue them, but to prove a point!)!

Climate change: So science say shit is getting bad, melting ice, rising sea levels, animals dying, desertification, etc. Liberals see it as a real existential threat; conservatives talk of natural cycles or deny it or talk about the oil industry or something bad about Priuses. See the difference? Liberals the science is saying we're going to die! We need to all work together! Conservatives deny the science (wtf!) and say something snarky when it snows. There is concern and a let's-tackle-this-problem on one side and a willful ignorance on the other.

Trump: Trump tweets and talks and we see it. Liberals are like damn, dude is racist, sexist, and inarticulate. Conservatives are like nah, he's the least racist guy, likes women the most, and the teleprompter broke. Liberals here are reading and listening. Conservatives are lying.

The border: children have been separated from their parents holy fucking shit. Liberals are like get them back with their goddamn parents and treat them like humans. Conservatives are like their parents shouldn't have tried to cross the border illegally. Hard not to look down on victim-blaming sociopaths.

I can keep going forever but what it really comes down to is: inclusion versus exclusion. For the most part liberals are looking out for others and conservatives are looking out for themselves.

I've told this story a few times but I have a 41 year old son who has 4 kids...works installing cable wires up and down the California coast...loves Trump...has an AR15...is as conservative as maris61 but we talk about politics in a standup comedy way...and love each other. I'll never understand his choices as an adult after being raised around a more liberal culture as a child. It's all good. He has his gun buddies and I have my Tai Chi...agreeing to disagree especially amongst family is essential. My father didn't figure that out until he was dying and made bucket list phone calls to apologize from what he said was guilt over our lifetime of distance over Nixon and the war
