Forgive me for what im going to say, but someone needs to bring it up

He can take anyone down, He might be the best in the UFC at that. Once he gets him to the mat all he does is lays on top of the guy.

    Re: My thughts on GSP

I'll have to disagree, now I'll admit I am a pretty big GSP homer but even if you just look at his fight against Alves, where GSP did do a lot of laying, he had Alves back a few times and almost the had the choke in. Also GSP is constantly looking to pass other guys' guards, hes not like Gray Maynard type where hes actually laying. Sometimes hes just not successful in passing and spends a lot of time in half guard. (especially the Alves fight)

    Agreed.

And I've never heard a fighter want to properly add the weight. That was his response when asked about fighting up at 185 against Silva. I honestly think he is scared of Anderson. I do think he is a top 3 fighter in the world, but I don't think he is exciting at all.

im not a fan of GSP either, but what he does works. I'll admit it. He's boring, but its effective. someone just needs to figure out how to stuff his takedowns more effectively..... So far, no one has figured it out. Kinda hard when you consider the guy trains with 205's on takedowns and then fights at 170. haha.

I agree with Mamba. i dont think he really wants to fight at 185... Silva.. he doesnt want none.

    Re: My thughts on GSP

We've been agreeing a lot lately on MMA. That is rare :]

I was just astounded by that. Anderson Silva jumps up and down from 185 to 205. BJ did it. Its just weird...I think he is content dominating 170. Eventually people will get bored of him though because there are no tests for him at 170.

LOL you're such a GSP hater Mamba. Anderson Silva said the same thing when asked about fighting at 205, he wanted the time to adjust to the weight and maintain his explosiveness.

    Re: My thughts on GSP

He said he wanted at least a year, right?

I read that GSP said he wanted at least a year to properly add the weight. That is all. If that isn't true, then let him prove me wrong and move up. There is nothing for him at 170.

    Re: My thughts on GSP

ultimately it's up to Dana, but rumours are both him and Silva may have to do one more title defence and it could then possibly happen.

GSP would need time to add the weight because he admitted he walks around at 185, if he went into a fight topped out at 185, he'd be giving up at least 15 lbs to Silva who walks around at 215-220lbs before he starts training for a fight.

I haven't seen the fight yet but I heard GSP knocked him down with a punch in the third round and came close to finishing the fight.

GSP also beat the living shit out of Jon Fitch everywhere the fight went, dropping him four or five times with strikes.

He didn't exchange much with BJ but he did so much damage in top control that BJ went lifeless and his corner killed the fight.

His G&P on Serra was ferocious.

The only real lay-and-pray victory I think GSP has had was against Koscheck, and it was right after the Serra loss so he fought a little more conservative than we're used to.

His next fight should be against Mike Swick or Martin Kampmann. I think GSP will be more willing to trade with those guys than he was with Alves. Trading with Alves was never going to be the game plan.

He did knock him down, but I don't recall if Alves was in danger of being finished at all.

in the 3rd near the end of the round GSP was pouring it on. I remember because I picked GSP to win via KO in the 4th and I wanted GSP to not finish him in the 3rd :p

I think "all he does is lay on the guy" is a pretty moronic summary.

If BJ Penn was just being layed on, I doubt he would have quit. Or Serra who controlled and beat down. Even guys who have made it to decision recently (Alves and Fitch) got a pretty good beating. Hughes got armbarred, Trigg got RNC'ed.

    AWESOME Post!!

GSP has finished or made a mess out of pretty much all of his opponents save for the first BJ Penn fight where BJ won the first round and GSP did enough to win the next two.

GSP would beat Silva, I think. GSP is a monster, he fought with a tear in his right leg and still went 5 rounds.
