Frank claims that this is a one-game change due to Orlando's small lineup . . . I take this as a good sign.

I take it as a good sign that (1) Coach Frank seems to be willing to rethink his hell-or-high-water starting five policy; (2) he recognizes that perhaps Krstic is hurting the team more than he is speeding his recovery; and (3) resisted the knee-jerk reaction to starting Malik Allen. This also may signal that tomorrow against Miami (Shaq-Haslem) the Kid/Pogo/the Professor/Flubber/Area 51 may well be the guy.

QUOTE (jarkid)

Bad news. Not Sean Williams over Collins.

You're right; replacing Collins with Sean would turn Krstic into a jumpshooting, floor-running monster.

Oh wait. does that make our starting lineup:
Kidd
Wright
Jefferson
Boki
Collins
with Area 51 as the 6th man, perhaps Kristc?
NEETO !!!

QUOTE (CelticKing)

It will be a tough game tonight.
Who can defend Howard?

Collins should do a decent job on Howard. I wouldn't be surprised if, during the 12 minutes that they're in the game together, Collins holds Howard to two field goals and a couple of lucky foul shots, and get Howard to commit a couple of fouls. However, against Magloire/Malik Allen/Krstic, Howard will go balistic. I'm very curious to see how Sean Williams does on him--I have absolutely no idea what to think.

Yeah Sean on Howard will be very interesting to watch. He did an alright job with KG because of their similar body types, but who knows against Howard. Sean is athletic to keep up with him, but who knows if he's really as strong as people say he is. He'll need it in the post, thats for sure.
I'd actually prefer to go
Boki / Collins
and then sub in
Sean / Magloire
Maybe I test Sean against Howard just to see how he does, but for the most part I want an enforcer against him.
edit: I should make myself clear: I'd want Sean to start; my point is that I'd prefer to keep Sean against Howard in limited minutes, and rely on our 'bigger bigs' for the C spot.

I'm happy LF has realized Krstic shouldn't be starting right now...
Frank really only has 2 choices when it comes to making a lineup:
1) Match the style of the opponent.
2) Put the best lineup for the Nets' style of play.
I'm concerned about the Nets playing into Orlando's strengths... or any team for that matter.
I would think success is more likely by imposing your own style of play rather than trying to beat the opponent at their own game.

Dwight Howard is a beast, other than Collins and Magloire using muscle to keep him out of the paint as much as possible, I don't think there is much the Nets can do.

The most important thing to do is to just keep Howard out of the paint, we have the big bodies to do it.
He is a great player but he has yet to refine his post game.

Well RJ, Boki and Wright better all be ready to run for 40 tonight. No backup wings off the bench. I guess we will mix Gill in and out of the 2 position too.

It's impossible to stop Howard.
The big thing to focus on in this game is the wing players. That is, Frank likes to be an idiot and double team when not necessary, so it's only obvious he's gonna wanna double Howard (which is not necessarily needed). Then, the shooters on the perimeter will have another field day.
The best way to stop him is to get him in foul trouble: Something Collins, Wright, Nachy, and Jefferson might be pretty good at.
Once again, just like in the Boston game, we can't double team--there is now too many players on Orlando who can hit the jumper, and leaving them open is like giving them 3 free points. Don't double team. Double team=Bad. Let Collins try to slow Howard down, let Howard get his if we have to. Don't leave shooters open. I'm looking at you, Jason and Richard.
I wanna see how long Frank plays Collins, and how many rebounds Howard gets when Collins is in.

Good decision by Frank. Putting Sean Williams on Rashard would have been tough because it would pull Sean away from what he does best in the paint and we don't know how he would match up against Howard. RJ guards Lewis and Nachbar on Turkoglu makes sense. Now its just up to Boki to get his game going. I caught some Magic games and they have pretty good ball movement. If the Nets could just get Howard in foul trouble that could disrupt the Magics game plan on offense and bring their offense down to Nets craptacular levels and give the Nets a chance to pull out a win. Hopefully.

well the howard/williams matchup went terribly wrong. i would rather see williams on lewis. he was way to small to keep howard out the paint.
