<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It sure didn't take you all long to fill up the voice mail and e-mail boxes with suggestions for Amar? Stoudemire's new nickname. Among the names readers have suggested: Stuff, Swoop, Ranger, A-1, Big Smooth, Big Thunda, Amazing Amar?, Terminator 2, The Chosen One and Big Lob. That last one is evidently a GI Joe character who speaks in sports metaphors, and Stoudemire is a GI Joe fan. Somebody even suggested "Hongvi," the Hopi word for "Standing Tall." Mike Banks, co-owner of Samurai Comics, liked the idea of giving Stoudemire a nickname so much he's holding a contest at his two stores. He's asking folks to come up with a name, and possibly a cartoon "superhero" character drawing to go with it. All entries will be placed in a drawing for a free comic book and a Suns prize package, and the winning entrant will get a scholarship to attend Samurai's Comic Book Art and Cartooning Class in July. How cool is that? The stores are located at 10720 W. Indian School and 5024 N. Seventh Street, both in Phoenix. We also told Banks that we'll try to get the winning cartoon into the Heat Index. Meanwhile, Banks suggests some superhero/comics that might fit the bill, with his assessment of each: ? Nova. "As in Supernova, because he is the brightest Sun ever." ? Mr. Fantastic. "Ask the ladies if this fits off the court as well." ? Powerman. "One of the top Black superheroes." ? The Punisher. "Amar? definitely punishes opponents." ? The One. "Simple. Ties into the new number. Speaks volumes." Staying with the comics theme, one caller suggested "Hellboy" and claimed it's what "the kids on the playgrounds call him." Hmmm. Hellboy's the dude with "The Right Hand of Doom." Michael Olowokandi, who still has "Spalding" imprinted on his forehead from that right hand, might tell you the kids on the playground are onto something.</div> Source I like his current nickname STAT.
