Am I completely off base or should we consider trading Nash during the summer? In my opinion he is a 6'4" softy. He doesn't go to the net, takes shots from to far out, is not at all physical, and seems to have a problem staying upright on his skates. I'm sure he would draw allot of interest and a good return. Maybe we could a couple of players that would fit our needs better than him. Would be interested to hear all your opinions.
rick nash is a very good hockey player, but he is an awful leader. Simply not in his DNA. He can be part of a team that wins a Stanley Cup, but he will never lead you to a Stanley Cup. He's no Toews, Crosby, Tavares, Perry,Bergeron etc., and never will be. Simply does not have that mean streak in him that really is essential to navigate an 82 game sked and then to the war of attrition that the NHL playoffs is
Great post puck. Nash is an excellent #2 option. Despite his size and goal scoring abilities, he just doesnt have the intangibles or leadership skills to be a true leader and #1 option on a cup team. That's why I liked the St. Louis trade so much. I thought that with MSL's leadership and scoring, Nash would only need to chip in the 30 goals he is obviously capable of scoring. Nash is a great complimentary scoring player who at times can take over a game. But he can't be relied on to lead this team to the cup. We need somebody to be his Toews.
MSL = Toews. Nash = Kane. As for Nash, pretty sure he has a NTC anyway, so doubt he gets dealt. And I doubt Sather wants to deal him at this point.
why would you want to deal him after 1 year? we are never going to get anywhere when every year we trade our players, building a stanley cup team takes time especially after a new coach a new system. nash has not been good since his concussion i agree, but in order to win stanley cups we need 4 lines that can score just like boston st louis and pitts, untill we get 4 lines that can score we will not contend. its as simple as that, nash can score 50 goals and we will not contend, if players like chara can shut down crosby in the playoffs do you think he will shut down nash, definitley, 4 lines that can score is success in the modern NHL, the NHL is not like it was in the 80's and early 90's where one line can carry you to the cup.
It's pretty hard to get a player like Nash....I think we are mostly stuck and we gotta hope that he plays better. The guy is immensely skilled and you only get those guys by 1) Being perennially bad like Edmonton and have multiple #1 overall picks or 2) Tank games like Pitt or 3) Overpay vastly for them in free agency I think we gotta hope its the concussion issues....and he gets healthier, maybe its next year. The guy is only 29 and can still be a great player. He isn't going to go to a lot of teams. He wanted to come to NY, I bet he likes it here he just isn't playing like it. I think the die is cast for this team for the next 3+ years. We gotta hope guys like Nash, St Louis and others start playing better as the team is the team. The good news is they have done it before, they just cant seem to do it in NY but still 13 games left and time to get the 2 or 3 seed in the Met which this team desperately needs. If they play Boston as the #2 WC that will be a horrific series.
You can trade anybody. It depends on the return. Let's face it. The Rangers drafted a kid who has a chance to be a similar player in Kreider with a lot more toughness with the 19th pick in the draft. I'd still do Forbert, King and Toffoli for Nash and Dorsett in a second. Makes more sense for this team. Can't foget that Nash won a ton of games in the third period last year. Yeah, he sucked in the playoffs but a lot of players did. I don't care if they keep him or trade him. Either way I'm OK with it. I'm not OK with McIlrath not being up here right now or the fact our 4th line is soft.
You can trade anybody true but Nash is not easy to trade, just ask Scott Howson. He is an east coast guy growing up and playing in Ontario. By all accounts he loves NY. Who knows he might love LA but Columbus is a shithole and he seemed pretty picky about where the Jackets would deal him to. All players are tradeable. Some players are easier to trade then others. He isn't easy to trade.
I sure hope they buyout Richards, that's what I'm a little worried about them botching. We need that extra 7m put to better use, not to mention the remaining 6y.
Gladly swap Statsny for Richards......But I am not sure Statnsy is a true #1 either Richards will be a great 3C/PP guy for a rival at $4m though
He's pretty close to a #1, and a grade above either Stepan/BR. The problem is like 31 said, there's really no other options in FA that good. I heard a few weeks ago they'll be targeting him so we'll see I guess. Agree on Richards as a cheap option elsewhere.
