"Pekka Rinne was in midseason form Thursday but an experienced Carolina Hurricanes squad beat the Predators 3-1 in Nashville's preseason opener.

Rinne had 17 saves on 18 shots including two where he had to slide across his crease to negate open-net scoring chances before an announced Bridgestone Arena crowd of 14,627.

In the first period, Rinne made a tough save with his body on Drayson Bowman when he moved from the left post to the right. In the second period Rinne made a similar save on defenseman Brett Carson.

"Every game you take seriously and you give your best every time you go out there," Rinne said. "It felt really good like a normal game day and a normal game.""
