Let’s say free agency starts the week after the draft. That’s gonna be less than a month between the start of FA and the season. Guys sign quick anyway but that’s gonna be a pretty exciting/hectic period.

Hope so, these are young guys and there no reason they shouldn't be able to start XMAS, if they have a covid plan in place.

What no delayed summer league?
How are we supposed to bitch about players being a black hole on offense?
I was already looking forward to Scrubb putting up 20 in game 1 of Fall(summer) League and seeing how he should be starting over CJ posts pop up. Damnit.

Maybe we'll get lucky and get someone better than anyone thought possible for the MLE with it being so fast and hectic!

So is the new season going to be bubble again?

Sounds like NBA realized they can't push the finals back to NFL season so better to start now with no fans than wait.

Also could've pushed the start back to March trying to start with fans, still not have them.... then the delay would've been pointless.

I think that this is as good of a compromise between all of the competing variables as could be achieved. Starting a bit earlier than Silver’s last estimate of January, plus shortening the season 10 games, gets the league back on its normal schedule and avoids the problem of players not being able to compete in the Olympics. The league will hemorrhage money due to the shortened season and no crowd revenue for at least the first few months, but now there’s the prospect of a normal season for the 2021-22 season.

One more thing, this will likely be Dame’s best shot at making Team USA.

NBA to hold back 40% of players salaries in escrow for upcoming season. Hoopshype

Will be interested in how social distancing will work if games resume. Not sure I am ready to go back though.
With basketball being played in doors and the leagues abundance of caution, I think that when Silver says they're going to start the season before the new year, that's him giving up on his stance of not starting the season until he can have fans at games. So you probably won't have a decision to make. I think it's very likely that the league has sources that are telling them that neither rapid testing or a vaccine will have effective availability soon enough for the league to get what they want (live attendance) in time to salvage a season, so they're likely going to some contingency plan (mini-bubbles etc.) I imagine that plan has the owners losing money again, like I'm sure they did this last season, the players taking a lot less money (latest reporting says that players will have 40% of their salaries held back) and the entire sport taking a hit, so they don't lose interest from fans just by losing momentum, get on a schedule where they end the season in the Summer and don't have to compete with football during the playoffs and have a chance at having a completely normal season starting in the fall of next year.

Dames social makes it look like he's training for real basketball in a month or so.

I would expect that. Most major sport leagues are back in some capacity. It will definitely be a challenge and I want the season to start. Just not sure how many people are going to be comfortable in a building with even a reduced capacity. My thinking is I have seen hundreds of games and no need to risk getting COVID-19 watching another.
