    NBA.com's poll "your opinion"

    LOL, I just noticed this; todays question on NBA.com's poll was "How high does Kobe Bryant rank among the greatest scorers in NBA history?"

    The alternatives are;

    1. Just not quite up there yet 84%
    2. Definitely Top 3 7%
    3. He makes the Top 10 5%
    4. The Absolute Best 4%

    Total Responses: 241718

    Most of us ARE biased but even the so called experts rank him among the top 5 easily. Kobe usually gets voted the "star of the night" by the fans when he has a terrific nightin but in this poll the odd thing for me is that 84% vote him "Just not quite up there yet", which is the lowest amount of credit you can give the man. Im curious why that is and is he really not up there yet? I believe he is at least top 3 and might become the greatest as his career continues.

    There definitely isn't ten scorers that I would rank higher than Kobe.

    Most people are casual fans that don't understand the inflation of points that occurred in the past. At the same time, they might be basing their opinion off of Career PPG, which in that case would also be a flawed manner to judge this debate.

    The Kobe haters and the people who can't seem to let MJ go.

    Keep in mind these are the same fans who vote for the All-Star game starters. These polls are a waste of time.

    Scorers in NBA history? Counting ability to score whenever one wants to, I would rank Kobe either #1 or #2, just because of Wilt. NBA fans must be moronic, they should note that it says scorers - not passers, rebounders or whatever, just scorers.

    There arent even 5 IMO... maybe MJ and Wilt (he was not a scorer but simply dominant) is ahead of him but i just cant think of anyone else...

    I think you'd have to throw in Kareem and Bird too.

    Elgin Baylor was a premiere scorer in his days.

    Top 20 players in history for points scored per 40 minutes, and also included TS%. I excluded seasons where the player was under 21, and only considered players who played at least 10,000 minutes after those season. Keep in mind that pace has slowed considerably, so give extra credit for what players in this era (like Kobe, Tracy, and AI) have done.

    That many people don’t rank kobe as a top 10 scorer in NBA history … that’s just amazing. They are either haters, or they glorify the past like so many people do.

    Kobe is the 2nd person to break 80 points in a game, the 4th to drop 3 straight 50 pt games, I believe the 3rd to average over 40 a game for a month, and one of a select group to average 30+ multiple seasons. ..

    I think outside of Wilt, MJ, and Baylor, nobody can score in volume the way Kobe does.

    He's number 22. Remember he played a ton of minutes per game, and after his first 6 seasons or so his scoring dropped drastically. Further, the game was played an extremely high pace back in those days (which these stats aren't taking into account), so he would be dropped even further if you made a pace-adjustment. I got these results from here, by the way.

    Wow, props to your stat box durvasa, though Kobe is 1/1a if you take into account his scoring ability after Shaq left.

    Stat box wasn't a big deal. I just copy/pasted the text from the B-R.

    I also can't help but notice that Elgin Baylor has the lowest TS% on the top 20 or so list (under 50...)...

    Yes, but also consider that the league average for TS% in the 60s was far lower than it is now. For example, in the 64-65 season, league average TS% was only 47.9%. Since the 80s, it's consistently been around 53% or 54%.

    I think Kobe, in terms of pure scoring ability, has to rank top 2. The only person that I can really put up there with him is MJ. Some will say Wilt, but Wilt wasn't a scorer per se, but just flat out dominant. Kobe is a pure scorer. He can beat you in a plethora of ways and then find more when you think he's done. The only person (that I've watched at least) that I've seen that can do what Kobe is doing now was MJ.

    I mostly agree with your comments Moo, but MJ never had the kind of three point stroke Kobe had; his range was slightly more limited, I'm not dissing him in anyway just stating some advantages Kobe had (MJ made up for his lack of threes in other fashions, etc.).

    HAHA people truly are amazing. Todays poll is How many points will Kobe Bryant score against the Warriors on Sunday?

    <ul>
    [*]Under 30 points 87%
    [*]50 or more points 10%
    [*]40-49 points 2%
    [*]30-39 points 1%
    [/list]

    Total Responses: 133311

    Now IMO 30-39 points is the most likely. What are people thinking, are they being realistic and thinking he might be tired ans so on, which doubt or are they plain hatin' on the guys abilities?
