The league said a video tape review showed the game clock "started appropriately" and confirmed the determination of the referees, using instant replay, that the shot was released before time expired. One of the three officials triggers the start with a wireless device on his belt. A neutral scorekeeper does, too, as a backup. Well, to be honest, you had to expect this, regardless of whether something went wrong. The NBA isn't going to overturn a decision made during the playoffs, in thier biggest series, where the eventual NBA champion is expected to come from. Personally, I found it hard to tell from the replays they showed.
If the video tape shows that the clock was right, then there's nothing the Spurs could have done. However, I don't think that it's humanly possibly to catch and shoot a ball in 0.4 seconds. I went outside to try it myself, and the fastest I could shoot a shot like Fisher's was a little over one second. To me, 0.4 seconds is like the snap of a finger. That should be just enough time to tap the ball. I'm not sure why 0.4 seconds in the NBA is the same as 2 seconds in real life.
I believe that's the minimum time alotted to get off a legal shot (maybe 0.3?) Personally, I also think it's realisticall impossible to get a legit shot off in that time period, but that's just me.
I agree. I was watching one game during the playoffs and the announcer or commentator said that the team who were inbounding the ball was lucky they had 0.4 seconds instead of 0.3 seconds becuase at 0.4 seconds you catch and send up a prayer(shot). To me it's physically impossible to do that in my state and condition. I just find it hard to believe that someone can actually do that.
Sorry to post this here but...... Watching replays I noticed that the clock ran further than it should have after the shot went in. I was wondering why the refs didn't add any time to the clock.
I think they stop the shot clock after the ball hits the floor. However, Fisher got the shot off with 0.1 seconds remaining, which means he got it off in 0.3 seconds. That is quite impossible to me.

Yeah I dont see how you can catch and shoot in .4 seconds it seems impossible but they say if its .3 in under you have to tip it in.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting notMuchgame:</div><div class="quote_post"> and I keep saying this but nobody listens, baron davis got it off in 0.3 so it is possilbe....</div> but you got to admit Baron Davis shot release looked alot quicker than fisher's did. Baron Davis more less just flip the ball at the backboard from three. it look like Derek to a full turnaround J. but it doesnt really matter the series is over.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Big Zee:</div><div class="quote_post">No way in hell was that a full turnaround </div> I was talking about the release of the shot. Sure did look like he got a full extension to me especially compared to Davis shot release.

Not like Baron Davis's shot which was a desperation shot.

Rudeezy if you're still questioning getting a shot off in .4 seconds go watch the video of it. The clock clearly started when he touched it and he got it off in time, so what else is there to talk about? That obviously means you can get a shot off with .4 seconds.

I am not complaining about it, just discussing it. Lakers won, yay!
