Which team(s) have had the most #1 picks in NBA history (counting only those in the same city. In that, the Chicago Zephyrs, Packers, Baltimore/Washington Bullets/Capitals, count as 5 teams and not as 1 team). I was actually surprised by the answers. And yes I know it's super easy to find this out. Try to do it without using google.
They are one of the two teams (in the same city). The Bullets/Wizards franchise has had 7 #1 picks. I was actually more surprised by the team tied with the Cavs. Cavs #1s Wiggins, Bennett, Irving (all in the last 5 seasons...ffs), LeBron, Daughtery and Carr. btw, this total includes picks traded for. *upon further review, there was only 1 franchise that had 6 picks. I looked too quickly. I thought that the Milwaukee Bucks also had 6 #1 picks, but 2 of them were from the Milwaukee Hawks franchise. So new question: How did the L.A. Lakers get the # 1 pick the year after winning a title? (the oddness of the answer is infuriating)
I haven't read beyond the first post. At first I thought the Clippers, but now, I'll guess it's the teams that have been in the same city the longest. From the 40s, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks. From about 1960, the Detroit Pistons I think from Rochester, Los Angeles Lakers from Minneapolis. Beginning in the late 60s the league exploded. Warriors moved from Philadelphia, etc. If it's the Knicks or Celtics, it'll be surprising, but logic leads me to them. Now I'll read the thread.
