<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Not quite sure why this has not gotten more press, but the NBA will be using a new basketball design next season. The new ball is no longer going to be leather, rather a composite surface, and has a strikingly different look. One of the side effects of this new non-leather ball will likely be the decrease in shooting percentages, as the ball tends to ?bobble? out a touch more than the normal NBA ball. The new ball was used exclusively at the NBA pre-draft camp. The new ball is also featured in print on the cover of the NBA?s 2006 draft guide. Ironically, neither the NBA nor Spalding has put out a release on the new ball yet. There had been rumors of the new ball design for the past few months - it was surprising to see it in use in Orlando, especially without any press on the new ball or its features ? but it?s coming.</div>http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_17689.shtml
Theyve been using it for the Draft workouts and apparently it will be introduced in the near future as the new official NBA ball. I dont remmeber ever seeing it, though.
heres a pici remember seein it at ASG on TV and i was like wtf is up with the ball?now I knowedit:another pic
Ya, i also remeber them using it in the ASG, I think the new ball is a dumb idea if it is going to decrese shooting %.
It better have the same performance as the old ball. You can't just change it up like that. But it looks cool.
Like the article says, its apparently not made out of leather and instead consists of some sort of composite material making it awkward to shoot and it appraently affects the release of the ball..Should be interesting to see players' reactions to it and how it is incorporated.
So, it will be easier to control on the court, but the shot will be altered. I don't like the idea. I just like the lines.
Ive played with composite balls before, theyre nothing new. The biggest difference to me is the grip on the ball, it feels like its a good grip yet it slides a bit.
This is dumb. I hate David Stern. Didn't he want to move back the 3-pt line 1-2 years ago or take it away?I can only imagine what Shaq/Big Ben's FT% is going to look like. O..... MY..... GOD. Ben is gunna shoot like 25% lol jk.
The ball looks kinda cool but if it decreases the player's shooting ability, what's the point? But hey, if the players can play with it, then I say go for it. Nowadays, it seems that the NBA is all about change. :no3:
This is a weird move, one I don't really think is needed. I think the traditional NBA ball should be kept just so the players can use what they are used to.
I like the look of the ball, makes it easier to see it for the casual NBA fan.But if it decreases the shooting% than what's the point? What it's giong to hurt is the good shooting teams. Not the Teams that run a predominant inside and slashing game...but the teams, like the Mavs and Suns, who take alot of shots. It'll suck because you could see the first year that Dirk's number actually decrease instead of increase, especially the FG% and point total...maybe even the rebound numbers go down, and loose ball recoveries go up.
This is just David Stern continuing his power trip. Another pointless thing to add or change to the league. F*ck you david stern.
