NBA Tradition?

    I was just wondering, is it an NBA tradition to pat the guy shooting a freethrow after he shoots it. Cuz almost every time a player does it..

    It's just a show of support towards your teammate.

    Like when your teammate falls down you help the up.

    It's for encourgement, and like shapecity said it's for support. Shaq gets those a lot.

    I also wondered: you know when someone hits a game winning basket, and his teammates are really happy and celebrating? Is that, like, an NBA thing?

    I guess it can feel pretty lonely on the foul line so the teammates lend their encouragement and support. It is common place, not tradition, although I cannot say I have seen players NOT do it!!! Some players do have free throw traditions though, Jason Kidd and Rip Hamilton for instance. It would be good to look into that side of free throw traditions. Who's got some more???
