"Antoine's second Boston departure will also have an incalcuable effect on Paul Pierce. Those two have developed a unique on-court chemistry that manifested itself during the aforementioned Walker Revival. During the first half of last season, Pierce appeared sullen and miserable. It wasn't until Walker came back that he regained his All-Star form. It will be very interesting to see what happens to The Truth this upcoming season. He could be anywhere from a top-10 player to traded by December.

In exchange for Walker (and cap relief), Boston acquired Utah stiff Curtis Borchardt, who'll team with Mark Blount in their, "Two stiffs equals one good center" equation. Also heading to Boston is Qyntel Woods (no pithy comments this time), rookie Spanish center Albert Miralles (who?), and two second-round picks. Wow. Toronto got a better deal for Vince Carter than Boston did for Walker"

In a way i do agree......who knows what losing toine...again....will do to paul....the two stiffs equal one good center is also true they both are garbage.....woods wont make the team....and albert miralles we will never see....so we traded toin for the TE and 2 second roudn draft picks? [IMG] ....i know he was a free agent but i feel we coudl have gotten more from someone in a sign and trade

Who's actually gonna make the team? with only 14 roster spots (under the new cba, down from 12 +3) and now the rights to more than 14 players I hope we don't end up releasing gomes just because we don't have the space

No way in hell would we ever release gomes just for no space....woods bouchardt and andre mirales arent making the team....i think you will see them all get cut....and we will have a young squad but....no leadership [IMG] .....we need to bring in a vet point!!

I'm glad that they liked each other, but their love affair did nothing but slow down our offense.<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">During the first half of last season, Pierce appeared sullen and miserable. Telling us how Pierce "appeared" and trying to translate that into how he really was, and then saying the most ridiculous thing I think I've ever heard, that Pierce didn't regain his All Star form until after Walker came back. Didn't he make the All Star game last year, before the deal was made? His numbers were actually better before Antoine came.<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Wow. THAT is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Vince Carter was a midseaon trade of a player under contract. Antoine Walker's deal was a sign-and-trade in the offseason.

IF WE DID NOT MAKE THIS DEAL, WALKER WOULD HAVE SIGNED WITH MIAMI AND WE WOULD HAVE GOT NOTHING.

That gave Danny exactly ZERO amount of leeway as far as negotiating is concerned...and we should feel LUCKY that we were able to walk away with what we did!!

Although it hasnt been this way in the past, i believe even though Pierce lost Walker he will play much better then he normally does without Walker. One reason is hes older/more expierenced, and now he has better young, role players.

key word there is young players.....this is the same pierce that last year wrapped his face in goz after getting into it with jamal tinsley and being ejected....he is clearly not a mature player and he is far from a leader....paul needs vocal support and leadership just as much as all the young guys do....he had it with antione as we saw from the second half of last season we had the all star gaurd back.....toines gone again....where does that leave paul now? How can Walker be a true leader when he did the dumbest things possible when on the court? He knows what to say off the floor, but on the floor he does all the wrong things. Surely that must rub the other players the wrong way.

That leaves Paul with an amazing Sixth man, and a bunch of all star potential young guys, thats not to bad. And as Thrilla mentioned its not like Walker was the man for boston he made horrible decisions on the court.

Walker was the celtics CAPTAIN....he was a vocal leader and knew how to get the team pumped....he was always encouraging the younger players as well as pierce....he might not have been the smartest player on the court but he was an excellent leader...not to mention him and paul were like best friends....with out antione pierces numbers drop....its a fact.....paul is not a leader and i dont think he has what it takes to be one....we need leadership on our team...we need someone to look out for paul and keep the younger players inline....just like antione used to

If he's getting in their face for stuff that he does himself, then eventually his so-called leadership qualities are going to wear away. At least Pierce isn't a hypocrite.

Anyway, isn't it Doc Rivers job to lead the team? He's a young coach that can relate to the players as much as any veteran can. He's more than capable of being a "vocal leader" while Pierce leads by example with his play. And lastly, let's not forget that the FA signing period just began yesterday. Let's not talk like the season starts up tomorrow.

I dont think antoine was a hypocrite....but i do agree with you on the points about doc....i still fee; thatthe young guys including paul need a leader on the court withthem not jut on the bench.....and even though free agent sigin just started alot of guys are committed to teams already.....theres still some guys out there that could help our team tremendously and we have a whole offseason before the season begins so lets just see what ainge can pull out of his hat [IMG]
