NCAA football betting players are just trying to wrap their heads around the BCS rankings after what was a wild weekend in college football betting action. Boise State were upset to fall out of the race (and likely into a meaningless bowl), Oklahoma won a rivalry shootout at Oklahoma State to steal their way into the Big 12 title game against Nebraska, but the wildest story may come out of the Big Ten, which may have the wrong team in the Rose Bowl.

The BCS rankings came out on Sunday, and out of the three-way tie atop the Big Ten that is Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin, the Badgers are the ones that are likely to play in the Rose Bowl as they’re the top BCS-rated team out of the three. The Badgers averaged 67 points per game over their last three outings, which likely gave them the style points to trump the Spartans and Buckeyes. But some online football betting players may have to wonder how the Badgers can be considered ahead of Michigan State after falling 34-24 to the Spartans in East Lansing back on October 2nd. The Badgers did manage to beat the Buckeyes 31-18 in Madison two weeks later, while Ohio State and Michigan State didn’t play each other this season. To be honest, if they would have played, it would have probably messed up the BCS title picture even more.

Now, this is not to say that the No.4 Badgers don’t deserve to be in the Rose Bowl as they had a great season and will be an excellent representative for the Big Ten against what will likely be TCU. But the Spartans have to be wondering what more they had to do. Their one loss came on the road against a tough Iowa team (the Badgers went to Iowa City and won by just a point), and the Spartans are probably being penalized for being a second-half team that always had to come back from a deficit (although their games were always worth the price per head that fans paid). But it is sort of mind-boggling that the Spartans will be left out of the cold, especially as the No.6 Buckeyes are being projected to go to the Sugar Bowl, while the No.8 Spartans are slated to go to the Capital One Bowl.

The Big Ten shouldn’t have this problem again as they’re going to have a title game next year after Nebraska joins the league, and the Spartans would at least have the chance to play for a BCS bowl. It’s just another argument for a playoff, and another reason why players shouldn’t bet on the BCS.
