* Poor but improving defense. Cannot guard top PF's one on one. * Relies too much on outside shooting, needs to improve on post moves as a PF. * Can have quite a few sub 40% FG games. Needs to be consistent > 45% FG every night like KG/Duncan. Will improve with post play. * Not the greatest clutch performer with shot clock winding down. * Needs to be more vocal on the court. He'll need to improve on these negatives to become a superstar.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dallasdude:</div><div class="quote_post"> * Can have quite a few sub 40% FG games. Needs to be consistent > 45% FG every night like KG/Duncan. Will improve with post play. </div> Although this is partially correct, I have to debate this. Dirk has had only 9 sub 40% games this season, and is shooting right at 45% for the year. Meanwhile, lets compare him to KG. Garnett himself has 6 sub 40% games and is shooting only 3 tenths of a point better than Dirk. So although he should raise it up, saying his field goal percentage really needs a boost might be a bit off. As for another negative, he really needs to crash the offensive boards more. If he crashed, he would get more second chance points and layups and would most likely raise his field goal percentage, scoring, and rebounding. All the other negatives IMO have been covered.
^ I didnt mean his average FG% has to improve. I just meant he needs to have consistent shooting. Not to shoot the lights out one night and throw bricks the next game.
I agree Dirk does that pretty often. Hes on fire one night then everyone thinks he's gonna have a good game on another night but he goes cold.
I think he needs to improve his D and his post moves. He's improved a lot this season though. He can't rely on his perimeter game too much so he needs more post moves to help increase his attacking game.
