<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Wayne Embry says he experienced racism throughout his life in the NBA, from the time he was a player to when he was the NBA's first black general manager and, later, when he served as president of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And according to Embry, one who once aimed a racist remark at him is Dallas Mavericks coach Don Nelson.

Passages recently released in Embry's autobiography, "The Inside Game: Race, Power and Politics in the NBA," detail his life and struggles as a player and executive in the NBA, and point out at least one instance in which he said Nelson made a racist comment. Nelson, when contacted in Dallas, denied the accusation.

In the book, co-authored by The Plain Dealer's Mary Schmitt Boyer and scheduled for a May release, Embry details an exchange with Nelson in 1983 that contributed to the fraying of their longtime friendship. The two had been teammates with the Boston Celtics from 1966-68, and Embry hired Nelson to be an assistant coach in Milwaukee in 1976.

This could be two things: 1) He's telling the truth 2) He's just trying to sell more books...

Whoa, read the article. It's funny how when people say they're not racist, they say things like I have black friends or I'm the most unracist person around. I'm not saying that Nelson said that, but at times people slip and don't remember that they said that.
That could be the case as well, got me thinking about how they say there's no racism in Hawaii.

That's a bunch of crap. I couldn't go out with this 1 girl because her fahter didn't like blacks. Philippino guy and mother Hawaiian. Not much lighter then me, but a white guy is okay for her. Anyways, it was a long time ago and why is it only now that those remarks out to the public.

I think this guy is trying to sell more books, although it is more than possible that something slipped out.

He is he just wants to sell books, I dont think Nelson would say that, and if he did let it get to the public otherwise he'd be out of a job.
