The Orlando Magic went into the 2012 NBA draft knowing they had no chance of landing Anthony Davis. A year later, another shot-blocking force who is leaving Kentucky after one season is receiving the bulk of the national attention. And since the Magic are scheduled to pick second this time around instead of 19th, a strong possibility exists that 6-foot-11 Nerlens Noel could be theirs for the taking. General manager Rob Hennigan met with him last week, making the Magic -- not the Cleveland Cavaliers, who won the draft lottery in May -- the first team to have such an encounter with Noel. But workouts for the Magic or anyone else are out of the question because of a torn ACL in Noel's left knee that he suffered Feb. 12 against Florida. Noel told reporters at the NBA draft combine in Chicago that while his recovery is “ahead of schedule,” he has yet to start running again and would probably not be able to play in a game for the first time until around Christmas. “I think I’m at a good point, but obviously I can’t do too much right now,” he said. “I’m just doing a lot of form shooting right now. I think when I come back, I’ll be able to knock down that 15-footer and be able to take my game to another level.” The Magic are revealing little, if anything, about their plans.
