Soul Driver in another thread got me thinking 'bout when I used to live and/or work in the Metropolitan area. A good season was one that the Netsies did better than the Brickerbachers. What's the vibe like these days? Do you know any Knicks fans still in Joisey? What's it like to kinda have bragging rights more or less locked up the past few years? The more gory the details, the better. (Hey, I'll take my satisfaction where I can get it.)

Well, down here in the A.T.L. they think that how we pronounce it, y'all. Forgot the crowd I was talking to.

I can't say that I've run into anyone who claims to be a knicks fan anytime recently. The only time they've been mentioned is with a "Can you believe what happened to them now?" kind of question.

believe it or not, I hardly see Knick fans around here (Bayonne/Jersey City) anymore. in the 90's it was the thing to wear Knicks jackets and shirts, but I rarely see that anymore. as a matter of fact, a customer at my bank wore a Knicks hat, and I said: "oh, so you're a Knicks fan? " "used to be!!"

There's virtually no Knicks fans that I know of down here in Monmouth County. And I don't understand why out of state people think we say "Joisey." I've never, ever heard someone from NJ pronounce it that way.

Well, the whole thing is half in jest in my part. Are people now against hearing that? Anyway, can't really generalize but I'll telly you what...I know I can't tell the difference between the accent of someone from N. Carolina vs. say Mississippi. Or at least not readily. It goes like that to some degree....the farther you are away from an area, the more accents from another region blur to your ear. Certainly, far from everyone doesn't think we can't pronounce our own state.
