Stefan Bondy @NYDNInterNets Heard the Nets are interested in Portland's JJ Hickson, who can veto a trade. Hickson would lose his Bird Rights if dealt
So if the nets get hickson; do you think he would accept just mle this summer? Seems like a big risk for them
can't you go over the cap as much as you want to sign guys already under contract? and good things happen when we deal with da nets - GETER done Neal!
Why? Seems to me Portland won't be using his Bird rights to re-sign him, so what difference would it make?
I think we should also keep in mind that teams reached out to Hickson's agent. Maybe the Nets were one of those teams, and maybe his agent gave them the thumbs up?
Hickson is the only player on our team that plays inside. Acquiring him kinda made up for the fact that we passed on Faried. If someone offers him a big contract though, and we match, we're stuck with this mediocre team for awhile. I hope that we can sign him to a reasonable deal, get at least one good bench player, and hope Lillard and Leonard really improve.
Nets have a chance if they send us Lopez for hickson, Matthews and Babbitt. They would have the cap space available to resign him. Doubt they even consider that though.
The Nets are so far over the cap it's not funny. (Seriously, go look at the god-awful contracts they're saddled with.) So if they don't get his Bird rights, they can only offer him, what, the minimum? Why would he agree to that? What is the obsession with Marshon Brooks? He's like a poor man's Nick Young.
They probably want him because of all the rumors of moving Humphris means they will actually move him if they could acquire another big. The incentive for Hickson, small as it may be, is to get to the playoffs and show teams what he can do in that situation to try and up his FA value this summer.
