<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The New Jersey Nets have requested waivers on guard Lucious Harris, Nets CEO Rod Thorn announced today.
?Lucious was a valuable member of our organization for the past seven seasons,? said Thorn. ?He was an integral part of our accomplishments over the past three years, and we wish him nothing but success in the future.?

The 11-year veteran was acquired by the Nets on June 27, 1997, as part of an eight player trade with Philadelphia and played seven seasons with New Jersey, averaging 7.7 points, 1.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 456 games. Harris? most productive season was the 2002-03 campaign, when he averaged 10.3 points for the Eastern Conference champions. Harris finished his Nets career 6th in team history in games played, and 5th in three-pointers made (236).

Harris appeared in 54 playoff games, averaging 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds. He ranks tied for first in playoff appearances on the Nets all-time list, while ranking 5th in minutes (1087), points (396), field goals made (140) and field goals attempted (326).

Harris has career averages on 7.5 points, 1.5 assist and 2.4 rebounds in 727 games.

What?! This would really hurt them next season. Lu can play the point as well and an unhealthy Kidd (or a non-Nets Kidd) would call for the Nets to have a veteran who can handle both guard spots. Now I'm not saying that Lu will do a great job with it but who'll take his place?

    I'm guessing that Kidd's next.

This is a shock! I though New Jersey couldn't hit anything last year, only
Harris and Kittles looked like guys that could stretch the D and allow Kidd
to penetrate. Now they are both gone and the Nets got nothing back?!
He will be picked up by someone, bet the Rockets have already called.

This move doesnt really come as a shock, there has been talk of Lu getting waived All offseason long. The only thing I dont understand is earlier this summer, I remember reading the Nets had to waive Lu by Sept 9 to save having to pay him half his deal, or they would have had to play him his entire 3 mill. But anyway I may be mistaken in what I was reading at the time. Anyway we dont have any type of perimeter shooting weapon, now. Lu was really our last one left with Rodney & KK gone.

Anyway I think the Nets are definately going to run Planinic in alot of screens, playing off the ball. He might end up being our best shooter, if the scouting reports are right about how well he shoots the ball coming off screens. We are really going to need him and Scali to step up & shoot the ball well this year.

Good luck to Lu, maybe he can go join K-Mart in Denver. They need some shooting depth at the 2-guard in Denver with Barry probably going to the Hawks and Lenard trying to recover from off season surgery.

Unless they are planning to get Zoran Planinic minutes at the SG slot there in trouble who's going to play backup to Ron Mercer? Rodney Buford, maybe but he wouldnt be the ideal backup Lucious was much better than Rodney. This was a dumb move by the nets management because they could of traded him for someone good, or packaged him in the Shareef deal if it goes through..

Lucious Harris was a really good backup, and unless he breaks a limb or something im sure as heck that another NBA team is going to get him.

Harris had good run, but last season I think that there were signs that his age was catching up to him. Sure he was a smart player and still is, but I do not think that he is athletic enought to continue. All in all I am not too upset that he is gone, but I think that the Nets could have just let him play one last season. Heck, he played very well in his contract year two years back, maybe he would have proved everyone else wrong about his athletism this year, but that will not happen.

Yeah, Lu was very inconsistent last year(I'd say in playoffs). But he did as solid a job as you could ask him to do,when he started out of position at the PG spot, while Kidd was done. One thing Lu has always done is step up when someone in the starting backcourt goes down, whether its KK with his injuries a few years back or Kidd with his problems, last year. But Lu needed to bring more to the table during our 3 playoff runs under Kidd. But I still got alot of respect for Lu because we have had alot of inconsistent bench play over the past 3 years(probably the reason we dont have at least one chip by now). But Lu, while being inconsistent at times, was our most stable rock.

It doesn't even seem that long ago when they were just finally getting back to the playoffs and then actually getting to the finals in the same year. Matter as fact it was in 2k2. Geez 3 post seasons later, it definately looks like they're going back to what they were just 4 years ago. A rebuilding team.

    Full Story

I really do have a strong feeling that Lu going to land in Denver. Like I said in a early post, Lu is almost a perfect fit for their need of shooting depth on the Nuggets. I dont believe there is much truth to the rumors of Clyde returning, so Denver will need to look for answers somewhere else. Voshun Lenard is still recovering from off season surgey, Jon Barry is now a Hawk. And Rodney White is having some off-court trouble, so Denver's wing & perimeter needs some depth. Lu will provide Denver with that Depth option off the bench.

Also Lu will make K-Mart happy. And you always want to keep your 90 million dollar man happy.

If Lucious were to be signed by Denver, he would easily be the replacement of Jon Barry and bring veteran leadership to the table, + he would get along real well with K-Mart.

I think that Lucious would be a perfect fit in Cleveland. They are searching for another guard to backup Snow and McInnis and Lucious would be a perfect vetern guard to come in and help us out.

man, this guy can flat out shoot. he's one of the best. bulls should get him instead of piatkowski. i know piat is a 3-pnt shooter and harris is mid-range mostly, but nonetheless, i'de rather have harris because he's a better shooter overall.
