New Assistant GM Mike Schmitz

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

look (olshey - tm), I know you think you know something the rest of us don't know, and you may be right. But unless you're willing to be a lot more specific you should just let us speculate and project ideas about what might happen. You're killing the buzz with your vague little reality bombs. There will be several months of buzzkill if what you say will happen, does happen. But we've still got a month to cling to the hope it won't. Stop raining on that parade
Ok. Carry on

Man... Everyone's had some misses. I don't get coming in here to point out two 2nd round misses four years ago just to say that you had them rated properly. Dude knows his stuff.
Sorry for the victory lap haha.

I was a big Jawun Evans and Kadeem Allen guy in 2017. Is that better?

Wasn't meant to be shade towards Mike. Love the hire like I've made pretty clear already.

That doesn't seem to fit well with the current Blazers' management. Are you sure he's really sharp?
He's come off that way but that's with producers and an ear piece in, with who knows what sharp person making him look that way. Maybe he's just a mouthpiece for the mothership but his analysis for a couple of decades on draftexpress were some of my favorites both before drafts and looking back at them after a year or two.

It's official: https://www.nba.com/blazers/trail-b...sistant-general-managers-kevin-kinghorn-chief

“We are ecstatic to welcome both Mike and Sergi to the front office,” said Cronin. “Mike’s extensive knowledge of evaluating talent both here in America and Internationally along with Sergi’s extensive background integrating strategy and analytics in the game of basketball are welcomed additions to the organization.”

He will join the Trail Blazers in early July following the conclusion of his coverage of the NBA Draft on June 23 for ESPN.

Schmitz and Oliva on the bench with Dame/Chauncey at Griffin's workout today.

i wonder what role Schmitz plays during tanking

I think you saw his role in the GP2 for 5 SRP trade. That's where his value is.

Sure, it is great to have someone familiar with all the prospects, but just about any GM should understand trade assets and the option of tanking for a generational talent. I doubt having Schmitz in the FO is the difference between getting 7th or 5th pick in the draft.

Paul Allen loved the draft, i'm sure he would have loved Mike Schmitz

He was at the game the other night. Hadn’t seen him since November.

I'd guess his role hasn't changed at all. Prep for the draft becoming steeped with knowledge on all the prospects to be ready to react when the offseason options are unfolding. I'm sure that he and Joe have had many conversations about this class and what sort of value he thinks it holds.

Isn't he supposed to be some kind of scout guru? I would rather he be out in the field instead of at games. He doesn't need to be at the games in person to see that this team sucks.

Pre NCAA tourney. Maybe just meeting with peeps before him and all the scouts hit the road.

Can't possibly be that simple. Don't you understand how all this works? You read this board enough to know better.
