A key member of the Rams' front office might be joining Al Davis' operation with the Oakland Raiders. Davis is looking for a new contract negotiator and salary-cap specialist, and Samir Suleiman reportedly is a candidate for the job.

Suleiman, 32, has been the Rams' director of football operations since 2000. In that position, he assists Jay Zygmunt, president of football operations and general manager, with contracts and cap management, among other duties.

Although Suleiman failed to return a phone message Friday, he told the San Francisco Chronicle earlier that he'd be interested in the job. "It's a great organization, so anybody would be lucky to work for them," he said. "And black is my favorite color."

In that interview, Suleiman also said he hadn't talked with the Raiders.

Suleiman probably is best known to Rams fans for the voice-mail message he left for Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz in September 2005 after Miklasz wrote that team officials — including Suleiman — owed then-coach Mike Martz support instead of back-stabbing him.

Miklasz reported the text of Suleiman's message: "Do me a favor. Tell your source — because I don't believe they were your words — but tell your source that I'm not a back-stabber, I'm a (expletive) throat slasher, and he'll know the difference before it's all said and done."

Suleiman was reprimanded by the team. "It's shocking that he would leave a message like that," Rams President John Shaw said then. "It's the type of behavior that we don't condone on any level."</div>

Wow, talk about spinning the truth. It looks like that St. Louis reporter was just throwing something against the wall and waiting to see if it would stick. I hate the media. They put out so much misinformation it makes me ill.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Davis is looking for a new contract negotiator and salary-cap specialist, and Samir Suleiman reportedly is a candidate for the job.</div>

This guy that wrote this was *lying*, and had no information on the Raiders' desire to replace their current cap guy.

Response from the Raiders to this story:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Raiders chime in: Team executive John Herrera responded to a story linking the Raiders to Rams executive Samir Suleiman as a potential salary cap expert.

"I spoke with Al Davis and he's never heard of him," Herrera said. "We've got a guy who's doing a good job in that area. As far as a 'capologist,' we've got one and we don't know this guy."

Suleiman said he hadn't been contacted by the Raiders but expressed an interest if there's an opening. Two independent sources - including one within the Rams organization - confirmed his candidacy.

Tom Delaney is Oakland's salary cap manager. Marc Badain and Mark Jackson continue to handle contract matters.</div>

So are the Raiders covering up because it makes them look bad to their own FO people? Otherwise, where are these independent sources coming from?
