An overlooked angle of this week’s Jays-Red Sox series at the Rogers Centre is that it’s the only time in the majors two managers will face off who have two World Series rings with the team they are still leading — Sox manager Terry Francona and Jays’ skipper Cito Gaston. Even though the current standings don’t reflect it, of the two men, Francona is the one more likely to make it three. “We’ve got a lot of changes and we’ve been playing a little inconsistent,” Francona understated. “Our pitching’s been spotty. We’ve not been playing very good so far.” For the Red Sox, this must be considered a transition year both on the field and off. Traditional leaders like David Ortiz and Jason Varitek have been eased into supporting roles. But Francona hopes the winning culture can continue. http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseb...1426--griffin-new-look-sox-on-the-right-track
The Red Sox aren't going to do shit this year. Here's what their offseason plan was: "hey, since our offense has completely fucked us over the last two postseasons, let's let out best power hitter walk and make little to no attempt to get Gonzalez from SD or Cabrera from Detroit. Then we can pickup a couple of terrible hitters and tell the fans we are going to win with defense"
