New Orleans Hornets (0-7) at Golden State Warriors (2-7) Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 7:30 PM PST At the Arena in Oakland, CA Golden State: 6.5 GB (Pacific, 5th place) New Orleans: 6.0 GB (Southwest, 5th place) Probable Starters: New Orleans Hornets PG Darrell Armstrong SG David Wesley SF Lee Nailon PF P.J. Brown C Jamaal Magloire Golden State Warriors PG Speedy Claxton SG Jason Richardson SF Mike Dunleavy, Jr. PF Troy Murphy C Cliff Robinson Quick Recaps This will be a fight between the two teams in the West with the worst records. New Orleans recently beat Utah for their first win as a Western conference team, despite the absence of injured star Baron Davis, 76-75, mostly off the play of center Jamaal Magloire and small forward Lee Nailon. They played with great energy on defense and played through a critical stretch of the fourth quarter without making mistakes. Now, they look forward to facing the Warriors. The Warriors lost their last game at Memphis, 100-87, despite strong play by Troy Murphy. They're only shooting 38.6 percent from the floor (last in the league), 27.3 percent from the three point line (also last) and 67.9 percent from the line (5th worst in the league). Although it sounds like they're simply having trouble getting the ball into the basket, they are also having trouble executing Montgomery's offensive scheme and thus, have trouble defending against the transition game that results from the numerous misses. They'll have to avoid that by getting to the line and simply making their free throws. Key Matchup Mike Dunleavy v. Lee Nailon / George Lynch With the loss of Jamal Mashburn earlier in the season and Rodney Rogers more recently, the New Orleans small forward has been a trouble position for them to fill. Although George Lynch has experience starting at the position and is a good rebounder and defender, he's certainly not starter quality. The same goes for Nailon, who has always been a good offensive threat, but who also has been a long-time journeyman. Young Warriors forward Mike Dunleavy will need to take advantage against this veteran duo and show that he can outwit even the craftiest of veterans. Prediction Golden State has a good chance to win this game, but New Orleans will definitely want another win after their success against Utah. If the Warriors continue to come out without energy and fumble the ball around, look for the Hornets to instantly take advantage.
I think this is a very winnable game if the Warriors can just play together and play with intensity. Last year, saw the game and watched Wesley warm up, man that guy can shoot the lights out.
Bless the schedule maker. In 11 games, we are playing against Bobcats, Bulls and Hornets. Must win game...
my god I know its only the hornets but, Pietrus is looking great. I think that Dunleavy better watch his back.
What a game and what a win. This is the type of game that can define a whole season and unifed and bond the players. I hope that the Warriors build from this hard fought game and continue to give the same type of effort they all gave in this game and all of the rest. I will be at the clipper Warriors game this sunday on the 2nd row from the floor and I can't wait to see the Warriors up close. I'm hoping to make a roadie with my son in January and catch a Warriors game in Oakland.
Why didn't montgomery play pietrus in the 4th, everytime he was in the warriors played well. I really think it should have ended in the 4th quarter with the warriors winning. They just seem to find ways to throw it away. I;m glad they got a win though. Richardson was terrible near the end.

But hey how about Calbert Cheaney coming up big? Jrich just struggled in OT and Cal took over along with Speedy. We had some nice defense and hustle by Najera, Foyle, and Dale Davis... and Jrich of all people. Nice D. But on offense the whole game was like watching two sissies trying to fight each other. Oh and let's give credit to Dunleavy Jr. for making that overtime possible and thank Monty for not giving Dunleavy the benefit of the doubt in leaving him in on defense and to shoot more 3 pointers like that (earlier he was like 1 or 0 for 5 with some really lame defensive plays). That was some of the toughest D I've seen being played with D-Square/Foyle/Najera/Cheaney/Jrich/Claxton. Nice job.
I listened to the game on Sirius satelite radio on my way to Oklahoma City. I can not believe Dunleavy hit that 3. I wish I could have seen it. I think that is his first clutch 3 since becoming a pro. Every time Dunleavy or Chaney messed up I would slap my dashboard and tell them how much they sucks. When Dunleavy hit that 3, I was just sitting there with a dumb look on my face. My wife looked over at me and laughed. So I hit my dash and told Dunleavy he sucked just for good measuer.

There is no way in the world Dunleavy should be starting. Whenever he was in, it was a detriment except the time he hit that three to send it into overtime. Pietrus was awesome! That guy was a stickler on defense and that bounce pass to fisher which was passed back to him was great. Him and JRich on the wings would be be good. I like Najera more than Dunleavy. He's not as talented but he has a nose for the ball and makes plays. Dunleavy should come off the bench, maybe he'll hit his shots with less pressure on him. Najera should come off as well. Biedrins has gotta lift and eat as much as possible and that kid could compliment this team very nicely. We really need another bigman and the kid's got good potential. Pietrus & JRich will be one helleva a duo for years to come. Man....Pietrus.
I only got to watch the end of regulation and the overtimes. Foyle played huge and I only wish Montgomery gave him more of a chance. I do not know what happened but he needs to get out of the doghouse quick. Thank you Calbert. He played great D and nice offense. His post move in the 3rd OT was especially sweet. Dunleavy hit a huge shot and it was not some prayer, it was pure from the time he let fly. That is realized potential. I did not see his work during the game but sometimes one shot defines a season, perhaps even a career. I certainly hope so because he brings so much to the game. JRich was horrible at the end of regulation and in OT. Jacking up perimeter shots without going to the rack. Pietrus? Did not get to see him. Perhaps he was being rested given his shoulder. I have had two surgeries for shoulder dislocations and they are not as easy as a knee or ankle injury. The last thing you want is to push it too fast. PJ Brown. That guy is the perfect compliment to Shaq and Miami should do whatever it takes to pry him away from the Hornets. He plays tough D, hits his free throws, can hit the open jumper and passes the ball.
3 OT's,but the Warriors got a win.It was a very well fought game, and both teams played it out to the Max.
A well fought but ugly game. A win is a win though and hopefully it'll look prettier as we get more wins. It's kind of sad we played triple overtime against the other worst team in the western conference only because they are missing Baron Davis and Jamal Magloire (and they were playing on a back to back night). The game's intensity seemed like a playoff game didn't it? Wait I forgot what that is like. My gosh we are horrible, but let's hope a killer trade happens or some other team gets massive injuries.
